MORNING BRIDGE.
Miss Maggie Latimer entertained
the morning bridge club on Wednes
day. Mrs. Otto Bristow and Mrs.
Ravcroft were invited guests. Sand
wiches and tea were served after the
games. A pleasant meeting was had.

A new morning bridge club has
been organized with the following

TALK BY MRS. RICHARDSON
At the. reception given by the Wo
man's Auxiliary of the Presbyterian
church Thursday afternoon, Mrs.
Richardson gave an interesting talk
to the guests on her work in China,
and her pleasure in being home and
meeting with her friends again.
It was a delightful reception. The
officers of the Auxiliary were in the
receiving line with the - guest of
honor. The house was made attrac
tive with roses and lighted candles,
and roses formed the centerpiece on
the dining table from which ice
cream and cake were served the
large number of guests present.
CIVIC CLUB MEETS
A meeting of the Civic Club was
held Wednesday afternoon in the
office of the Chamber of Commerce
and despite the inclement weather
there was a goodly number in at
tendance. A report was made of the
erection of the marker. Mrs. Gib
bons was present and told of the
plans for the curt} market which
will be opened this month and a
clean-up campaign was talked of.

Harris, Mrs. Gibbons and Mrs. Ken
nedy were appointed to outline a
plan for the future work and wel
fare of the club.
The work on the flower beds on
the plaza has been mapped out and
started and flowers will be planted
near the Seaboard station. 1
ELIZABETH HIPP
FALLS OFF HORSE
Miss Elizabeth, young daughter
of Mr and Mrs. C. B. Hipp, while
out horseback riding Monday fell
off her horse and was frightened
and bruised but not. seriously in
jured. Her father took her to the
County Hospital where a thorough
examination was made after which
she was removed to her home on
Pinckney street. MLss Elizabeth is
eight years old and has taken her
first lesson in horse-back riding
which is the ability to fall-off-with_
out-being hurt. She had the pres
ence of mind to withdraw her feet
from the stirrups or she would have
suffered serious injury.
MRS. DERBYSHIRE ILL
Mrs. A. J. Derbyshire is seriously
ill at her home at the Episcopal
Rectory. Grave concern Is felt by
Rev. Mr. Derbyshire and her many
friends over her condition, and the
mother of Mr. Derbyshire has been
telegraphed for.
A consultation of physicians was
called for today, and it is hoped
they will not find her condition . so
serious as feared. Mr. and Mrs.
Derbyshire have the sympathy of
the people of Abbeville.

session, is at home with her parents,

The death of Mr. Avery Ray, who

The deceased was a young man of a
genial, sunny disposition and was
liked by everyone who knew him. He
was a member of the Baptist church
here. The funeral services were held
in Greenvale church, conducted by
the Rev. J. M. DaHas. A large crowd
of sorrowing relatives and friends
attended to pay a last tribute to one
they loved. The floral offerings wne
beautiful and numerous. Mr. Ray is
survived by his young widow, who
was Miss Richey of Donalds, also his
mother and several sisters and bro
thers ibesides a host of relative-.
