Meeting Tomorrow. 1
A called meeting of Abbeville post, ,
No. 2, American Legion is scheduled
for tomorrow afternoon at 6:15
'clock, in the court house, and it is I
ittped that the members with their
friends and recruits will be present.
It is very important mat tne reur
ganization shall be completed in the
near future as there is much work
the federal government is constantly
calling upon the legion to perform
"for the ex-service man. Even if the ,
lain should continue its steady ,
downpour tomorrow the boys should j.
come out. Not so long ago private
affairs and such small matters as .
weather did not prevent the fall-in
a'gnal from being heeded. ;
Let's get together and keep up the
Sght. If we are going to pretend to I i
have an organization let's support it.!
At other places the Legion is thriv-^

The Bonus Again.
The following is Commander Mac
aider's interpretation of the bonus
question:
The. American Legion feels that
opposition to the adjusted Compen
sation Bill lies principally in ignor
ance of what the bill really calls
for. We have yet to meet the man
who has read the bill who opposes
it. A brief study of this legislation
appears in nearly every case to be
a very happy antidote for the hue
and cry raised ^against the cash
bonus, principally by people who
have not taken the trouble to in
vestigate what they object to.
There is a cash option, it is true,
but it is taken care of hy small
payments several months apart.
The other four features of the
Legion bill include home and farm
aid, paid up insurance, vocational co
training and land settlement. We to
believe ourselves (that they are
more advatageous to the veteran if
he can afford to take advantage of
them, and we believe that the ma
jority of men affected will choose
the feature most helpful to them, j ri<

on the first man's return not give
him at least an even deal with the
other. Of course you wouldn't even
if you hadn't promised him that
you'd see he got a square deal
when he returned.
Yet that is what th? opponent of
that Adjusted Compensation Bill ia
asking the United States to do.
It is not a question of sentiment
of paying for a man's service or his
patriotism, (because no man can put
a price on that, nor can any man
pay for it. It is an insult even to
suggest it. But there is no reason
for penalizing the man for offering
his life to his country n dangerous
days?and there is every reason foi
giving him a square deal.
You will be interested to kno-w
that those men who dictate the af

of the Chicago District are in great
majority unqualified for this meas

of the United States most affected

many members and heads of local
Chamber of Commerce bodies.
They were almost unanimous in
their support of the Adjusted Com
