Accompanied by several othei white men, Sheriff M. R. LeRoy seix ed a still in operation on the Cherry Hill plantation near Willington last Thursday night, catching the opera tors, George Tucker, Tom DeVore, Bradley Murray and Lem Tutt all colored men of that vicinity, in the act of making liquor. The captured men waived prelimi nary and three of them are in jail, while the fourth one, Tom DeVore, is out on $200.00 bond. About 500 gallons of mash were ready for this still which was a large copper outfit and un^er fire when the sheriff and his men arrived. An other stand of about 500 gallons of mash was found next day by the sheriff within 350 yards of the place where the still was located and it is supposed to have belonged to the same parties.?McCormick Messen ger. AT OLD WILLINGTON CHURCH. The great oak yet is standing; the spring sends forth its flow, Just as did old schoolmates, when we wAro vniinc. vou know. On the top-moet bough of that grand old tree, a mocking bird did perch, And thrilled his sweetest music into the song within the church. I sat near an open window in a con venient pew, And saw the pretty songster when across the yard he flew. Inspired by the singing he tuned his silver tongue, Then joining in the anthem in match less notes he sung. A fitting scene on earth for angels to behold, A thrilling inspiration to every living soul. I was then a boy of 12, but the scene appealed to me, To see the peerless bird in worship on that majestic tree. The sacred house is vacant, is now a silent room, Those who sang with us that Sabbath morn, are lying in the tomb. A bird may now be singing o'er their bed of clay, . Just as sweetly as the one that sang with them on that bright April day. Sixty-eight years since I witnessed the beautiful sight, But vivid in memory it will live till comes the endless night. ?N. H.
