I "SOME" WATERMELON VINE j . ? ' ^ I Four Melons From One Plant -Weigh .. 196 Pounds, Says- Grower. Mr. P. t>. Klugh of the Long Cane j section raises watermelons along i with a few other things which neti easy spending money, ifny rind of money in hand, he admits,1 spends easy, but when a fellow makes t so easily and enjoys it too, well that's easy spending money. Mr. Klugh has a watermelon "patch" of about a half acre, which hits made him some money, given him and his neighbors pleasure and furnished" a hard-to-resist temptation for all passersby. He says he has one vine in the middle of a row of beets, far away from the "madding crowd" of other vines, that has produced, so far, four melons which weighed 198 pounds in their stocking feet, so to speak. And their proximity to the pickling beets has not affected .their flavor in the least, though they were as red inside as beets. Mr. Klugh also grows "honey dew" cantaloupes that, are meant to deceive the thief. They are smooth and hard on the outside, almost like unto the w. k. gourd that still serves the people of Newberry and Pickens counties as dippers. But they do not taste like the same, for their flavor is truly like honey dew sounds. He brought the Press and Banner one recently and the seed are being dried. FOR SALVATIOtN ARMY ' Capt. S. C.
