people of Elbert county that if they
re thinking of building another
bridge on the Savannah river, a good
location for such bridge should be at
the old Bowman ferry.
Through said bridge Elberton
would have a direct communication
with Abbeville and Anderson, S. C.

cities there are 1,325,061 persons,
both union and non-union, out of
employment, as compared with 1,
391,396 the last of March. A state

cities was made public Ihere tonight.
Figures for Chicago had not been
tabulated, but greater New "York
and vicinity, acording to the report
has 400,000 unemployed, or the
same number as on the last; of
March. Cleveland has 125,000
against 1:08,817 the last of March,
Boston 40,000 against 35,000 in
March, Milwaukee 34,500 against
40,000, St. Louis 50,000 against
37,500, Pittsburgh 60,000 against
'20,000, Indianapolis 25,000 against
20.000. Cincinnati 20.000 acrainst
35,000 and Los Angeles 18,000
against a similar number in March.
Other cities included in the re
port were Pemsacola Fla., 300
against 400, Wilmington, N. C., 2,
000 against 500; Newport News,
Va., 400 against 1,000, Miami, Fla.,
1,900 against 2,900. Tampa, Fla.,
7,350 against 20,000 and Mobile,
Ala., 9,000 against 2,300.

Franklin 'K. Lane, former secretary
of the interior, will net be taken
the top of El Capitan peak in the
Yosemite valley and scattered to the
winds as requesrted by Mr. Lane.
Mrs. Lane, the widow, today an
nounced that the family had aban
doned the plan as they looked upon
it as sacrelige. The remanns will be
held here pending final disposition
which will not be made uwtil friends
of the family have been consulted,
Mrs. Lane said. She wilf leave to
night for Washintgon to visit
friends.

HIGH POINT TO GET
METHODIST COLLEGE
Greensboro, N. C., May 21.?The
board of education of the Methodist
Protestant church in North Caro
lina at a meeting (here tonight se
lected High Point as the site to 16;
cate a college of that denomination
in this state
Three places were considered:
High Point, Greensboro and Burling
ton. High Point offered a site of 60
acres and $100,000. It was this offer
which was accepted. The church pro
nrvses tn nnt $590,000 .inifn its ml
lege at the beginning. The college
will be located just Inside the incor
porated limits of High Point on the
Greensboro to High Point highway.
It was also announced tonight that
J. Norman Wills of Greensboro
makes a gift of $100,000 toward the
college, certain securities to that
amount to be turned over to the col
lege trustees to be applied to the
permanent endowment fund of the
nstltution.
Rev. J. W. Busshart went over to
Pearl Mills yesterday and organized
a Baptist Sunday School.
