Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hanvey werei among those who came to town from Troy Saturday. They were shopping in our different stores. \ Mrs. R. 0. Edwards and Miss Agnes Edwards spent several days this week in Monterey with Mrs. 0. M. Lanier. Col. Willis Mars and Mr. Walter Mars were up from Mt. Carmel to day. The frost put them out of the notion of planting cotton for a few days anyway. Billy Bradley, who has been at home for several months getting wfell, has gone to Coumbia where he has a good position with* the State Highway Department. Mrs. Griffin Niclcles and -her young eon, Mac, arrived in Abbeville! Sunday from Columbia for an ex-! tended visit to her parents, Mr. and: Mrs. J. C. Cox. I NEWBERRY VISITORS Mrs. Thomas Pope came to Abbe ville Friday afternoon and visited several days with her parents, Chief Justice and Mrs. Eugene B. Gary. Mrs. Pope was accompanied by her son, Thomas, who is hard at work these days making life interesting for the first grade teachers in the Newberry schools. ATTENDING THE RECEPTION Mr. 'Will Sherard, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Thomson, Miss Elizabeth Thomson and Jack Thomson, Mr. W. C. Sherard and Frank and Jim Sherard, of Calhoun Falls, attended the reception Saturday nigh* at the home of Mrs. Maggie Sherard in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Greir Sher ard. SICK CHILDREN The friends of little Mildred Mc Combs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. McCombs, will be grieved to know that she is quite sick at her home in Fort Pickens. The little girl had had high fever and is sick enough to distress her parents. Marion Wilson continues sick at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Wilson on South Main street. She has been confined to her bed for two weeks and Dr. Rake stray was called in consultation Sat urday. Exery body knows and loves "Sister" Wilson, and hopes she will be well again soon. ' DEATH OF MR. HUGUELET .? * > News was received in Abbeville Sunday afternoon of the., death of Prof. Jules G. Huguelet at his home in Hamlet, N. C. Mr. Huguelet had a serious case of grip some time ago and while he had been up and about tiis accustomed duties, he was in a weak state of health. He anticipated joing to Battle Creek, Mich,, in a few days for treatment but remain ad in Hamlet to play at the wedding jf a friend. Mr. Huguelet lived some years ago in Abbeville having charge of the music of the Methodist church ind a large music class. He was ac :omplished in his chosen profession md did much for the musical cul ;ure of Abbeville. Mr. and Mrs. Joe T. Hughes went ;o Hamlet at once and friends here ixtend their Sympathy to the fami y. THE BRIDGE CLUB N Mrs. J. POWER ILL Local Physician Undergoes Opera tion at Hospital for Appendicitis. Improves and Today Has Normal Temperature. Dr. J. R. Power was operated on for appendicitis at the hospital in this city Friday afternoon following an attack of appendicitis. When the operation was performed it was found that the appendix had burst, and complications were feared. How ever, the doctor rallied promptly from the operation and suffered nc nausea and since then has been im proving. Dr. L. T. Hill said today that the patient had normal empera ture and that-?there was no reason apparent to fear complications. Dr. Power is one of the popular and successful young physicians of the city. He has many friends in the county who will be sorry to know of his illness, but who will rejoice that he is on the road to recovery. The operation was performed by Dr. Rakestraw, of Chester. THE PRESBYTERIANS Dr. Raid preached for the Presby terians Sunday morning. The regu lar communion was held and there were five additions to the member ship of the church. THE BOOK CLUB The reguar meeting of the Book Club will be held Wednesday after noon at half past four o'clock at the home of Mrs. L. W. White and Mrs. C. A. Milford.
