Miss Eva Thomas, who is training
as a nurse in Chester visited for a
day or two with Mrs. R. B. Cheatham
this week and will rest for a day or
two at the County Memorial Hospi
tal before returning to her work.
Miss Mary White returned Friday
from a visit to Miss Mary H. Greene
at Agnes Scott College. While away
Mi^s Mary attended two Shakes
pearean plays in Atlanta. Seeing
these plays will be of great assistance
to her in her work in English at the
High School where she is one of the
bright pupils of this year"s graduat

nouncement of the engagement of
Miss Eugenia Robertson and Dr.
Charles Augustus Baskin. This is
pleasant news to the many friends of
the young couple.
Dr. Baskin is a son of Mr. John T.
Baskin, of JL.owndesville and is well
known to the people in oufl county.
He lived in Abbeville some years ago,
being 'pharmacist for the ?peed
Drug Co. He is making his home now
in Darlington. He is a young man of
splendid qualities and is to be con
gratulated on his happy future.

Miss Eugenia Miller. She has lived
all her life in Abbeville and has
endeared herself to a wide circle of
friends all of whom (wish her the

IN GREENWOOD FRIDAY
The girls' basket balV team so
journed to Greenwood Friday after
noon where they m?f(Je a .violent at
tempt to get the big end of the score
with the Greenwood girls' team but
luck was against them. Greenwood
scored one field goal and Abbeville
two free throws tieing the score but
Ada Faulkner raised her heels on the [
first free throw and the referee noted
the fact and refused to count the
point made. This brought the score
to 2 to 1 in favor of Greenwoo^T A
third game is planned for next wedk
to be played in Abbeville between
the two rival teams.
GONE TO MARKET.
Mr. W. H. White, who looks after
the buying for the L. W. White Co.
left Friday for the markets of the
North. He will be away for about two
months.

John McMurray, Robert Ellis and
Miss'Elizabeth Lyon helped outj

Sunday. .It was worth a trip to
church to see them join in the ser
vice.

Society of Upper Long Cane church
held a pleasant social meeting at the
mance with Rev. and Mrs. G. M. Tel
ford, last Friday night. About fifty
of the young Endeavors and their
friends were present and all spent an j
enjoyable evening. Ice cream and
cake were served as refreshments. '

Miss Mary Mann is secretary; They
have a flourishing society and ' ac
complish much good among the young
people of Upper Long Cane.

Mr. J. G. Powell, of Inverness, Fla.
and Mr. Henry Powell, of Lincolnton,
Ga., were in Abbeville this week and
were the over Sunday visitors of
their sister, Mrs. C. E. Williamson. '

Mrs. W. D. Wilson in honor of Mr.
and Mrs. S. Jenner Link. There were
twelve guests and a pleasant evening
was spent.

Mr. R. N. Tiddy is in/ Charleston
this week in attendance upon the
meeting of the Masons of the State.
Mr. Tiddy represents the Abbeville
Lodge and will be away for the week.

has suffered a serious hemorrhage of
the lungs and is in a critical condi
tion at his home in the Sharon neigh
borhood. His son, Thompson Penney
arrived from Charleston Saturday

UPPER LONG CANE CHURCH
NEWS.
The Woman's Auxiliary has reor
ganized it3elf on the Circle -Plan. The
ladies of the church have been group
ed into twelve circles, in as many
neighborhoods of the congregation.
This will make it convenient for all
of the ladies to attend Meetings of
the circle of their particular commu
nity, and it is hoped that every lady
in the church will become active in
the work. Each of the several groups
is to be called together for a meeting
at an early date, at which time a
chairman will be elected, and work
for the circle during the coming
year planned.
The Christian Endeavor Society,]
organized about three months ago, j
has made steady progress, and has i
recently been/ divided into Junicr and I
Senior Societies, both societies are
doing good work. The-meetings are
held on Sunday at 3:30 P. M. at the
church. All of the young people of
the community are cordially invited
to these services.

Greer is a bright and vivacious young

to many friends here.

Julian Roche went up to Anderson
Friday afternoon. He went in his car
and took a pretty yoiing lady along
with him. He stuck? in the mud so
many times between Abbeville and
the Electric City that he tried the
old reliable Southern coming home.
SICK FOLKS
Miss Julia Pennal,(who is with the
Co-Operative Store, has been sick at
her home on Washington street for
the past week. She is recovering and
hopes to be out again soon.
Miss Kathleen Adkins, one of the
competent nurses at the County Me
morial Hospital was operated^ on
Thursday for appendicitis and is re
gaining her strength and health.
