LENGTHENING THE SKIRT
In spite of the strenuous efforts onj
all sides to lower prices, and in the
face of deplorable underproduction
it in the textile industry, an associar
tion of manufacturers of women's
s outer garments is planning a change
e in styles that will require more ma>.
terial in the making. Coats and skirts
are to be longer, it is decreed*,
i, The Department of Justice sees in
d this proposal an attempt not only to
keep up prices but to increase them,

be backed by a campaign of publicity j
The change poposed would halt the g
wave of economy that is now flow- g
ing. For no real woman can be satis-j
fied to be hopelessly out of style, and
while the home dessmaker may con-',
form to changes in making over jj
things by the shortening process,
lengthenings and additions give pie-jj
bald effects. ' (I
The way to combine at least a J
degree of smartness with economy !
is to oppose any change for some 1
time to come. And, indeed, present [
fashions are well worth retaining,'[
for not only do they require less Jj
material, but they are more graceful ?
in line and trimming than for many J
years, and at the same time more ?
practical and comfortable.?N. Y.
