PLATFORM WORK |t SHOWS PROGRESS f ' * g Quick Action Expected When Con- ] vention Meets?Hopes of \ "Harmony" C Chicago, Jane 8.?Republican j t platform builders reported substantial progress today on tentative j drafts, with promise of unusually s quick action by the resolutions com- j mittee as a result of preliminary } work. Group differences remained, x but leaders of all factions said there were higher hopes of an entire 'har- j mony' platform after the planks ^ are smoothed and the shavings r swept out in the committee. * nriTi - ^ The league 01 nations piaun w? | tinued today to engross several U groups of the voluntary platform ^ construction corps. Another differ- | ence loomed over labor policies, in- , eluding demands for indorsing antistrike and similar legislation. Set- s tlement of both, however, was pre- c" dieted. The supreme court's decision on \ prohibition brought forth renewed s discussion of a prohibition plank, v Prohibition advocates were plan-1 i ning to urge a strong eiuuiv??... r I plank with a declaration against c any "beer and wine" amendments! ' of the Volstead law. Many party j leaders, however, are disposed to ^ keep the platform silent on prohibi-1 ^ tion, with the possible exception of a strong "law enforcement" plank, ^ which could be construed to cover prohibition. j. iJoth factions in the treaty dis- s pute worked many hours today, J with the hope of leaders inai sum | Attention C J We Are Nov/ In Pos I Make of Battery. | We are Agents For t | BATTERY With > I For 18 Months.
