between $3,900 and 4,000.

The commission also recommended
that fourth class postmasters
be allowed 140 per cent on
cancellations of $75 per quarter
and less; 115 per cent from $75 to
$100 of cancellations per quarter,
and in excess of $100 per quarter,
100 per cent on the first $100, 75
per cent on the next $100 and 60
per cent on the remainder.

SOUTH CAROLINA
The examination for the award
of vacant scholarships in the University
of South Carolina and for
admission of new students will be
held at the county court house on
Friday, July 9, at 9 a. m. Applicants
must not be less than sixteen
years of age. When scholarships
are vacant after July 9, they will
be awarded to those making the
highest average at examination,
provided they meet the conditions
firovernine the award. Applicants
for scholarships should write to
President Currell for scholarship
examination blanks. These blanks,
properly filled out by the applicant,
should be filed with President
Currell by July 2.
Scholarships are worth $100, free
tuition and fees, total $158. The

I BIG LOSS IN GALVESTON
Galveston, Texas, June 1.?
Sisal, estimated at $1,000,000 in
value, was consumed in a fire of
unknown origin at Pier No 41, Galveston
Wharf company which broke
out late last night and at i o'clock
this morning was still burning. The
warehouse1 in which the sisal was
; stored also burned at an estimated
loss of $500,000. The sisal was the
property of several New York
firms which have been accumulating
it here from Yucatan, Mexico.
While the identity of the inidividual
owners could not be learned the
warehouse was under lease to the
Cotton Concentration company.
NOTICE OF OPENING BOOKS
For Enrollment of Voter* in Democratic
Primary Election
Notice is hereby given that books
for enrollment of the voters of Abbeville
County in the democratic
primary election for the present
year have been received, and the
various enrollment committees may
find them in the hands of the Clerk
of Court. The books of enrollment
will be opened Tuesday, June 1st.,
1920, at the selected places in the
several sections of the county and
remain open for the enrollment of
voters until the last Tuesday in
July, 1920. The Club Districts remain
as in previous Election year.
The qualifications for enrollment
in any club of the democratic
party and for voting are as
follows:
The applicant fpc membership, or
voter, shall be 21 years of age, or
shall become so before the secceeding
general election and be a white
Democrat. He shall be a citizen of
the United States and of this State.
