would have been well but for the fact

ing the rear wheels of the two cars

nations. ;
But everything was soon smoothed
out, nobody was hurt, and after the
excitement, everything was lovely. [ ]
The fact is chat the whole cause of ]
the accident was the refusal of Corp |
Kerr to ride to church with Jack.'
He was duly invited, and naa he ac ]
cepted the invitation Jack would
have stopped the car at the church (
to let him out, in which interval the
car of Col. Billings would have',

of 43 to 38 Saturday!

Washington, May 15.- With few]
thrills and no hitch in the prearranged
program, the Senate adopted
today 43 to 38 the Republican
resolution declaring the state of war
with Germany and Austro-Hungary
at an end..
The measure was fn the form of a
substitute for the peace resolution recently
adopted by. the House which
dealt with Germany alone. The two
proposals will be adjusted in conference
beginning next week,the result
ko be endorsed by both Houses and
the final resolution be sent to the
. President for signature.
That the President willveto it is
a foregone conclusion, unchallenged
by any speaker during the debate in
the House or Senate.
It is uncertain when the final reso.
.ution will reach the White House but
ftepuoncan leaders anticipate no anficulty
in putting through a confer- j
snce draft with little delay.
