fere carried down to the branch but
?t allowed to drink. Though both

hey traveled a rocky road throughut
the evening.
LONG AND SHORT MEET
Last week Mr. Jewel Short, a good
rinter from Athens, Ga., was in
Abbeville assisting the Press and
banner force in getting out the acumul&tion
of work in the office.
>uring the evenings he walked
bout the city to see just what a
ood town was like. One evening he
ropped into Steve's Cafe and got
ito conversation with Hon. J. Alien
/ong, the new Water and Light
Commissioner. After the two had cysussed
most of the national and inernational
issues of the day, Mr.
iOng, being a married man, found
l was aooui nme to go nome. Me
;ot up and expressed his pleasure at
neeting the stranger, saying "My
iame is Long, and I hope we shall
fleet again." The printer replied,
'My name is Short and I join in the
pish."
The only reason the Water and
jight Commissioner did not electroute
or drown the printer was that
he former had not yet taken the
ath of office.
