SENATOR DIAL GIVEN i s
AN INTIMATE WRITE-UP j

(By Fraser Edwards, In Washington hi

"Dial for President." j e
"But," queried the gentleman. who,v
regarded himself as the repository of' ]i
all political knowledge, with a super-jo
cilious lift of the eyebrows, "who in j o
h? is Dial." j s
Nathaniel Barksdale Dial, a United !
States senator from the sovereign \ ~
State of South Carolina, is president j
of every worth while business enter-,
prise in his native State, so his name,
should not be overlooked by the dis-j
interested and patriotic citizens so'
frantically searching for a business!
man of vast experience for the Presi-'
dency. ? !
Has fhe Presidency Habit.
As a matter of fact, Senator Dial'
is doubly fitted for presidential jobs,
for it is a hereditary instinct with 1
him. It may be said to be a blood
taint that he has been unable to overcome.
His father was president of a
bank and many other enterprises.
After graduating from three Southern
universities, Senator Dial began
the practice of law, and in fact has
kept it up. But the law is merely a|
side line. His real job is being
president.
Whenever a new enterprise is organized
in the Palmetto State Senator j
Dial is promptly electcu president of,

patched to inform him of the fact j
But having a predisposition for tho
presidency, he accepts the post and
enters cheerfully upon his duties and
proceeds to build up an organization
from a shoe-string.
Organized Two Banks. o
He once helped to organize a bank, p
of which his father was made presi- g<
dent. Then the presidential procliv_ j ?
ity began to crop out in young Dial, *
so he forthwith organized two banks
and became president of them both. He
still holds both jobs, too. /
His presidential propensity not ?
being satisfied with these elevations g
Senator Dial built a cottonseed oil 1
mill, a glass works, a cotton mill andlB
a bonded warehouse and promptly ;G

four enterprises. He then became in- i I
