Coleman has been invited to attend along with 25 other trained workers, a meeting of the Southern Division Red Cross in Atlanta next week. Miss Lily Brooks, Due West, was the guest of her sister, Mrs. R. M. Burts, this week, enroute to Sylacauga, Ala., where she will teach in the public schools. Mr.s. John White and her two in- ' teresting children, Charles and Sarah El'en. have returned from r. doljo-Vitful visit to Miss Lucy White in Atlanta. Miss Marion Daniels leaves soon for Columbia, where she will pursue her studies as a member of 'he Senior class in the Columbia Col-, lege. She is one of the prize p;:~"" of tbp college. Miss Annie Greer is the guest of Miss Mary Quarles Link, arriving here Wednesday from Atlanta, enroute to her home in Spartanburg, j Miss Link will accompany her to Spartanburg. I Miss Mary Stevenson, graduate of, the Abbeville High School this year, will leave today for Winthrop Col-J lege, where she will matriculate for j the coming session. ? Missionary Society. Miss Mildred Cochran entertained j the Young People's Missionary So-1 ciety of the Methodist Church Thurs-1 day afternoon at her home on South Main Street. After the business j of the society was disposed of re freshments of sandwiches and iced tea was served. *' / v * \ The Daughter* Meet. The Daughters of the Confederacy held an unusually pleasant meeting at the home of Mrs. C. E. Williamson Tuesday afternono. There was much business before the meeting and the discussions were lively. The Daughters reported an expendi ture of twenty dollars in cleaning off the Monument Parle. After this the City council will be asked to help the Daughters with this work. A box of cakes, candies and other good things to eat will be sent the convalescent soldiers at Camp Jackson on Tuesday. The box will be packed at the home of Miss Maggie Brooks. The Daughters will at an early date give a public reception in compliment to the young ladies who are here teaching in the schools. The reception will be held in the afternoon at the home of Miss Mae Robertson. After the business meeting Mrs. Marshall read an interesting article on the origin of the Confederate flag and told of being present at the inauguration of President Davis and Vice President stevenson ana seeing the raising of the Confederate flag. Cloth for the making of a small flag and needles and thread were passed to each guest and a flag was made as a souvenir. A guessing contest was enjoyed, Mrs. Marshall having about the brightest answers, of all the ladies. At the close of the meeting cream and cake was served. Mrs. Williamson proved a charming hostess. The Book Club. The regular meeting of the book club was held Wednesday at six o'clock at the home of Mrs. Jones F. Williamson, Vice President and Mrs. Horton, Secretary and Treasurer. These ladies have the welfare of the club at heart and a successful year is ahead of the organization. Mrs. Miller, as the retiring president, has served the club faithfully and the members give her up with regret. A delightful salad course was served after the business meeting. Ladies Society. The September meeting of the Ladies Working Society of the Methodist church was held at the home of Mrs. Henry Gilliam on West Pinckney stret on Tuesday afternoon of last week. The attendance was unusually large and several new members were enrolled. A committee was appointed to be gin work on the various articles to be included in the box to be sent to the Orphanage. Refreshments were served at the close of the social half-hour. Mrs. S. M. Shiver will entertain the society in October. Mrs. Levi'Entertains. Mr.--. Louis Levi opened her home Wednesday afternoon and entertain-* ed her friends at a delightful bridge party. Twenty ladies gathered for this occasion and the time passed swiftly in the enjoyment of the tfarne. An elaborate salad course with tomatoes, rolis, and crackers, followed by peaches, cream and tea was served as refreshment*. Mrs. Levi was assisted in receiving her guests by Mrs. Philip Rosenberg, and Mrs. Sol. Rosenberg. Mrs. Levi entertained again on Thursday afternoon at bridge, both parties being perfect in arrangement and greatly enjoyed by the ladies present. Playing the Game. Col. T. G. White gathered together all the set back fans Tuesday night at his home on Greenville street, and demonstrated how the game is played in Abbeville for the benefit of Mr. Robert McC. Perrin and Col. McCaw. The McMurray Drug Co Reception To Bride. One of the most enjoyable affairs of the season was the lovely reception given yesterday afternoon by ! Mrs. John B. Wier in honor of Mrs. ! Van Noy Wier, a recent bride, and |Mrs. Henry Stradley, of Greenville, | S. C., but formerly of this city. The entire first floor of Wier's attractive home was thrown together ^nd made a fitting background for S the asemblage with fall flowers and j pot plants. ' ! In the living room where the guests j were received a wealth of yellow flowers lent charm and color to the occasion. White predominated in the dining i room, and the table was beautiful j ! with its cluny cloth, with centerpiece ] of roses, while silver dishes of bonI bons lent a touch of color. ' Those in the receiving line were, Mrs. J. B. Wier, Mrs. Van Noy Wier, Miss Mamie Morse, Mrs. Henry Stradley, Miss Caro Morse, Mrs. Joel A. Wier and Miss Onie Morse. Moss, Jr., had charge of the dining room and were assisted by Misses Sallie Goodwin, Elizabeth and Susan Moss, MaNita Bullock, Frances Myers and Maxine Dobbs.
