The colored people of the town
have .closed two successful protracted
meetings at their churches.. During
these sessions there was a complete
ftbsence of disorder and strife,
something that cannot be said of the
meetings held at many colored
churches in the different parts of the
county.

Fairfield, Aug. 19.?There was a
heavy rain all in this section Monday ^
night, which caused swollefi streams, j
There were several bridges washed
away on Long Cane Creek. We hear
that Mr. L. S. Bradley had the misfortune
of losing, a fine' horse by
drowning. While the darkeys on
I
Long Cane had a quantity of chick
ens and two yearlings and 4 shoats' I
to get drowned. But the saddest of j
all was the drowning of two -tittle'

darkeys, Geo.'Sutton" and, T. Walker,
on the -farm of J. W. Long. The ^
t\vo were playing in water that over
flowed a gulley and by some means
they stepped off into this gulley and (
were drowned. Mr. R. M. Wiley of
Lethe, heard the screams and went i

to their rescue, but there were no ,
signs of life when he got them out. 1
