l*'JUilA 11 JVJJji i?i?i FORD MONEY DOES . MANY GOOD THINGS Mount Clemens, Mich., July 23.? Henry Ford, after six dasy of hostile examination in his $1,000,000 libel suit against the Chicago Tribune, was turned over to the friendly questioning of is attorney, Alfred Lucking, here today. Mr. Ford expanded somewhat and his nervousness disappear ed. The constant shifting ox position in the chair was all but eliminated. His voic became stronger and he sighed with apparent relief. "I will make it short," said Mr. Lucking, adding with a look at the witness, "under orders." Incidentally it became known that Mr. Ford has not ceased his efforts to promote world peace. He will send a nwspaper correspondent with President Wilson to report the latter's speeches in support of the league of nations, which, Mr. Ford testified last week, he believes will assure universal amity, and will distribute the cor-! ivpondent stories to a list of papers which has been taking the report of his news bureau on the present suit. It appeared that Mr. Ford pays little attention to his income or what i3 done with it, at least not in de-j tail He was building the great Ford hospital in Detroit when the United States entered the war and. it is now reported by the government as General Hospital No. 36. "What did that hospital cost you?* asked Mr. Lucking. "I don't know." "It cost a couple of millions any, way, didn't it?" ' "Yes, more than that, I think; three or four millions, perhaps," said Mr. Ford. y HARVLEY NAMED :;J AT GREENVILLE; ? ! i > Greenville, July 23.?Mayor H. I TADOSK u? | Confederate Veterans. Never was a city more peacefully, nay joyfully, occuped. A finer set of men never walked God's green earth, declared Dr. John O. Wilson, president of Lander Colllege, in his few words of welcome to the veterans. Representa* tives of every organization, business, municipal and professional in Greenwood told them of the city's pride in having them as guests. Responses by representatives of veterans, sons of veterans and Daughters of the 'Confederacy left no doubt jthat the visitors were just as happy1 to be here. Governor Robert Cooper greatly pleased the large audence when in a short address at the afternoon session he declared that the Confederate soldier is as loyal today as he was in 1861, and that the cause for which he fought was the same that has become a principle now with a majority of the nations of the world. The Governor said that he had abundant opportunity to test the patriotism of the veterans in Red Cross and liberty loan drives in all sections of Soa.h Carolina last year, and he found that every single Confederate soldier bad the fighting spirit and showed no respect for the citizen who was not 100 per cent for his country.
