She is always a welcome visitor. Billy Bradley came up from Colombia Tuesday afternoon and is ' taking a rest of a few days. He has \ had some enterprising physician carpentering on his throat lately and is just out of a hospital. Mrs. Fred Stinedaiger and young son, Fred, are here from Sanford, Fla., on a visit to Mrs. W. S. DuPre, on South Main Street. Miss Corrie Killingswortih is up from Columbia taking her annual vacation and is spending the time with Mrs. Milford on South Main street. Mrs. Annie Mabry and son, John Thompkins, and Misses Li la and Marie McCaslan are visiting their cousin, Mrs. Johnson Kilgore in Newberry. Visiting At the Old Home. Mrs. Sydney Eason and her fine young son, Eugene Gary, are here from East Orange, N. J., for a visit to Chief Justice and Mrs. Eugene B. Gary. This is her first visit since the arrival of (her young son and both are meeting with a happy welcome from friends and kinfolks. Mrs. Thos. H. Pope and young Thos. Pope, of Kinards, are also here for their usual summer visit. Attending the Convention. Mr. Ralph Lyon, Miss Mary Greene and Rev. M. R. Plaxco went to Newberry this week, where they will attend the Convention of the Young Peoples Christian Union. Welcoming the Young Soldier. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Williamson went over to Pansy, Ga., on July 4th to welcome home their brother, Mr. J. Grady Powell, who came in that day. Mr. Powell was accompanied by his wife and handsome young son, "Billy," both of whom are making their first visit to America. Mr. Powell was engaged in the practice of law in Canada at the outbreak of the war and he went to the front at once with the Princess Pat Regiment. He served faithfully through the first battle of Ypres, where he was severely gassed and wounded with schrapnel. After his recovery he was transferred to the Paymasters Department in London, where he served until the close of the war. This is his first visit home in seven years and he and his charming English wife are receiving a warm welcome from his family and old friends. Our Boyc. Abbeville people are always interested in the Benet boys and it will give a host of friends great pleas ure to know that Dr. George Uenet has recently received the British Military Cross, for distinguished service in the great war. This is Dr. Benet's second decoration, having been awarded the- Service Medal for 1915-16. Dr. Benet ranked as a Captain and his services have reflected great credit on hmiself and on his State. Since going abroad Dr. Benet has married a charming French girl, which is the crowning event in his career. A Visiting Veteran. Major and' Mrs. George Hanvey are in the city spending this week with Mrs. Mary Kennedy, on Wardlaw street. Major Hanvey is an Abbeville cuuirty uvy in wflum we are an jusuyi proud. He has been in the army for fourteen years and has seen service on the Border and took a notable part in the World War. He has just returned" from overseas and is visiting for a while at the old home. Sergt. James Cothran on Furlough. Sergeant James S. Cothran, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., arrived in Abbeville Wednesday night on a ten days furlough. On his way he stopped in Atlanta, where he met his mother, Mrs. W. S. In the meantime he is a J very important unit in the clerical! force at Fort Benjamin Harrison, j one of the large permanent military establishments of Uncle Sam. His friends in Abbeville will be glad to learn of his visit here. Entertaining Their Friends. Mrs. Truman Stephens and Mrs. Walton Stephens gave a delightful party at the home of Mrs. Truman Stephens Tuesday afternoon.
