Jim Kennedy, Jess Harkness, Payson Kennedy, John Pressly, L. L. Abercrombie and other star players made up the above club. Augusta was fortunate if she reached the first base. Well, "Jim Kennedy", is now Col. J. M. Kennedy. He has had twenty five years experience in the! medical department of the army. He has served in the Philippines and in the Spanish American war. Presbyr terfcn. . . ^ '( THE CIVIC CLUB. The Civic Club was reorganized after a rest of two years, at a meeting held Monday afternoon at the Red Cross rooms. The chief business of the afternoon was a discussion of the plan to build a hospital in Abbeville. The plan met with the hearty approval of ';he Club and it was voted that the club take a thousand dollars in stock in the enterprise. A committee 01 ladies; Mrs. G. A .Neuffer, Mrs. Foster McLane, Miss Maggie Brooks, Mrs. J. L. McMillan and Mrs. D. A. Rogers, were appointed to go over to Greenwood and look over the hospi >1 at that place. This committee will co-operate with the committee of men having the hospital matter in charge. A remarkable sum of money was -eserved to finish the Triangle, the plans of which call -for a fountain ind a marker commemorating the last meeting of the Confederate Cabinet. The election of officers resulted in Mrs. Foster McLane being chosen president, Mrs. Joe Wilson, vice president, Mrs. C. H. McMurray, secretary and Mrs. Rogers treasurer. An active canvass will be made for more members and under the new officers, a successful year is looked forward to. ABBEVILLE HOSPITAL. The Abbeville Memorial Hospital is assured. The committee in charge of raising subscriptions has now on hand $9,600 and has enough more pledges to make up the necessary amount. It is hoped to get the building renovated and equipment here in order to open the hospital by July 1. The Civic Club has given the hospital $1,000, which sum has been on hand for ?ome time to be used for a hospital when su?h an institution should be established here.
