If Germany wants to rebel is; Foch still with us? T.hp Columbia' States informs that it is not running the Universi We have received this as inforn tion and spread it on our minutes. After having spent all this til talking about THE League of ^ tions, the president now tellsthat we must be in a hurry abc making peaqe. The president kno how to jump to the head of the pi cession about as well as the n? one. Japan is about to find out that t American people were joking abc abandoning the Monroe Doctrine. \ The New York Herald says tf April first is a day for jokes, I ttiat it is also tije day to pay re: which is no joke. We see that Bill Taft had to b< , row money from the mayor of I troit. We are glad that he did r run out of money in Abbeville. The people on Greenville str< are getting ready for the. paving s their street, which is to be the fi: rftreet paved this summer. Washington and Lincoln, Sen&1 Lodge tells us, when about to ma treaties with other countries fi submitted the proposed drafts the treaties to the Senate for i proval or criticism and suggests But were not Washington and L coin just ordinary mortals? Th were not Messiahs. The latest complaint is that Bur son raised the telegraph rates wil out giving us any facts or figur< as did Secretary McAdoo when asked for increases in freight a passenger rates. The complaint without foundation. Is not Mr. Bi leson "the general curiosity" of e erything he runs? Ajtet . r? ? " All this talk about the ^ight r. America to take care of her own s . fairs is a lick intended for cott< Ed. Smith and the price of cotton ? A mart in Virginia suggests th % Governor Cooper is a proper man send to tlie United Senate next sui % mer. The Governor under our prii ary system has the right to secoi the motion. REPARATION. The payment of indemnities France and Belgium will not gr the people employment, certain not at once. If it be true, as stat< by the people of these countries th the Germans first stole the machi ery from the industrial plants in tl territory which they overran ax then destroyed the factories, carr ing the machinery back into Ge many, nothing would seem more keeping with justice than that Ge . many should be made to redeliv the property which has been stole and rebuild the plants which ha1 been wantonly destroyed. Germany may easily pay a hea^ indemnity to France and Belsnum France and Belgium are to have s their industries crippled for years 1 come, while the German people, wil the machinery and equipment whit l \ has been stolen from the French ar i- Belgians, are able to set up shop i ?;! once, and to turn out manufacture products, and build up a trade wil " all parts of the ^orftfr" Tlfay'notPfl Germany rebuild in France and Be gium their factories, manufacturing ^ plants, and refit them with the machinery which has been stolen, or with like machinery taken from Ger? man plants to take the place of that which has been destroyed without ? any war-time necessity? Why may 3. not the people of France and Belay gium have what is theirs, and be given a chance in "industrial life _ without waiting? it- No mercy should be shown the people who gladly made war on civilization. They spared not, and they planned not to spare any of the other QQ peoples of the earth. No indemnity ! and no terms are too heavy which 00 j may be extracted from them. All 50 j talk about their rebelling sounds like j the talk of a man who is too con?vsiderate of people who have not j earned the consideration of any peo~ | pie on earth. As the people of the n j United States were not too proud to j fight, th<> peace commissioners ; should not be too afraid to make the us j terms as heavy as may be. ty. ia" THEY FOUGHT A GOOD FIGHT. [ It is a great pleasure to have with ine us again the fighting men of the fa- Thirtieth Division. They are Abbeus vij^e boys these, and they have iut fought as becomes men of this counwa ty They weVe among the first to ro- take up arms when the country call ? * - - jxt ed; they gladly went into battle to fight our battles; they braved the ' Hindenburg line and the German ke war machine, and they made war a tut hard pastime for the Kaiser. They return to us full of honors, Nothing we can say, or even think, can add to what they have achieved lat on the field of battle where onlj >ut brave men can stand and, if need be nt; die. They were willing to make the sacrifice. They'have offered theu all. Having fought a good fight they reor ? ^ turn to us to become again private , citizens. Let us 'hope that the lines lot will fall for them in pleasant places and that in times of peace they wil] distinguish themselves as good citizens, just as they achieved fame or ?* the field of glory. There is nothing rst which may not be theirs if the same fortitude and courage shall be witl them as was with them in Belgium tor and France. ike We wish them all the best in the rst land. May they live long and prosof per. lp. IMPORTANT in- , There will be a meeting in Due tey West at 4 P. M., April 4, 1919, in the Y. M. C. A. Building, and at Donalds in the school house, at 3 P. *e" M., April 5th. The purupose of the meeting is twofold: (1) to organes' ize a bull association and (2) to bring before the people the advantages of the sweet potato storage 13 house. We must let the "scrub Ir" sire" go and replace him with a thor!V" oughbred sire if we expect to hav? profitable milk cows. The storage house has passed beyond the experi vj- mental stage. if- The meeting will be conducted by on County Agent Rowell, assisted by i. Messrs. T. W. Moseley, Extension Dairy Husbandman.
