Miss Etta Hitt of Atlanta, came over Saturday and will spend a week with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Sherard * and other relatives. Miss Annie Jones of Newberry, is the attractive guest of Mrs. L. W. ? White for sometime. Mrs. H. M. Pennal left Saturday for Raleigh, where she went to be with her son, Mr. W. R. Pennal, who is sick. Roddy Devlin came over from Greenwood last Sabbath and spent the day with his sister, Mrs. M. R. Plaxco. He worshipped with the good Seceders who are always glad to see him. Miss Lavinia Coleman has returned to Abbeville after a pleasant stay . in Troy as the guest ol Miss iviaoei Kennedy. Miss Margaret Reese spent several days this last week with her brother, Mr. Bradley Reese. She is as handsome as usual and her friends will be glad to know that she is a very successful teacher. Mrs. W. M. Barnwell and her handsome little daughter, Julia Fretwell, spent last Thursday and Friday in Columbia as the guests of Dr. and Mrs. Weston. Miss Caroline Bradley, of Troy, is the pretty visitor of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Bradley on Wardlaw street. I ? Rev. E. B. Kennedy spent several I days in Abbeville last week looking I after the interests of Erskine col lege. He reports the prospects for the opening of the college as fine, notwithstanding the war. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Stewart and . their two fine children are over from York county and are spending sometime with Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Greene in the Gilgal section. Mi\ W. J. Bryson is off for a months rest and left Tuesday for Cashiers Valley to spend the time with his mother and enjoy the mounvtain breezes. Miss Julia Mabry will return home otday from Chester. Her friends .and relatives are glad to know that sht is well again after an operation for appendicitis. A. B. Cheatham of Charlote, spent Sunday here with Mr. and Mrs. P. A. Cheatham. Dr. and Mrs. M. W. Cheatham came up Sunday from McCormick 1- fi.1. and will spend tnis ween witn air. and Mrs. P. A. Cheatham, and take in the pleasures of the carnival and that of a city. Mr. and Mrs.. Ames Haltiwanger and their three young daughters returned to Columbia Saturday, after a visit to their relatives in and near Abbeville. Miss Lucy White went over to Chester Saturday evening and spent SnnHnv with her friend. Miss Julia Mabry, who is improving. . Mr. C. S. Marie of Dublin, Ga., spent a few days in the city with friends last week. Geo. P. Cannon of Anderson, was in the city Sunday with friends. Mr. T. Miss Sadie Hammond is at home from a pleasant stay with friends in Westminster, Greenwood, Walhalla and Breezewood. Mrs. George Smith and young son, Joe, accompanied her home on Sunday, and will spend some time with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ham mond. Miss Lucy Zachary is in Sylvia N. C., this week to spend her vaca tion with her relatives.
