The Naval Recruiting Officer reports that results are beginning to show from the President's appeal ; for the Navy to be recruited to war strength. Since Sunday, the 25th, over 120 Have applied for enlistment; about 35 of these being Charlestonians. However, due to the urgency 01 mis call and the enthusiastic response with which it is being met by the North and East, the Recruiting Officer expressed himself as beinfe a little disappointed with the results to date. Lieutenant Cooper stated that, "While in no manner wishing to de' tract from the imperative call of duty which is urgent and every American owes his country, he again appeals to eligible boys and theirs parents to consider the Navy as a gateway to unlimited opportunities for personal advancement. Mrs. Martin died Saturday afterloon, and was buried at Bells church Sunday morning. Rev. Grouch conlucted the funeral services. Many orrowing friends and relatives were resent to pay their last tribute of espect and love to the one who had one to await her loved ones followng in her foot steps. Mrs. Martin had been in all health ut weeks before her last bad illness tad been able to carry on her houseold affairs, and went visiting a few lays before she died.
