Callahan left Tuesday for Baltimore, accompanied by his nephew, Mr. L. E. Callahan of Williamston, who goe3 there for treat% ment. Mr. Hugh S. Kennedy, a well known citizen and merchant, died at his home in Laurens Monday. He was a member of the firm of Kennedy Brothers. Dr. and Mrs. J. F. Shirley expect to leave next week for a two weeks' trip to points in Florida. They will probably change their plans after reaching Florida and spend a few days in Cuba. Mr. J. Lem Kay of Belton underwent an operation for appendicitis at the Anderson hospital Monday afternoon. His many friends in this section will be delighted to learn that the operation was entirely successful. Mr. Kay is district superintendent of the Virginia Life Insurance company. ~ " T * ? ii? ;n Mr. S. ?j. Latimer is cnui ttuj m; with pneumonia at his home near Broadmouth and little hope is entertained for his recovery. Two of his children are also ill with pneumonia. The local office of the P. & N. railway was entered by robbers last night and relieved of about $25 in cash. Entrance was made by breaking a glass in one of the windows. The robbers did not seem to want anything but cash as none of the freight was molested. Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Ballentine eni ' tertained a number of their relatives at a dinner last Sunday in honor of the 75th birthday of the latter's father, Mrv S. A. Austin of Pelzer. Dr. H. M. Babb is confined to his room by an aggravated attack of grippe. Mrs. J. L. Traynham suffered a slight stroke of paralysis last Friday. While still ill she is thought to be improving slowly. Mrs. Traynham has been in feeble health for several months. The condition of the streets is a splendid argument in favor of pav ing in nonea ram. xx cvustiuuuuu, al amendment was passed two years ago to allow Honea Path to assess abutting property for this purpose, and we can find no better time to do it than now. On account of the continued rains1 of the past few weeks the roads are almost impassable in many places. There seems to be a general complaint on account of the bad roads, and the people who have seen the result accomplished in Greenville county by making permanent roads are highly in favor of doing the same tiling in this section. It is rumored that an additional passenger train will be put on by the P. & N. road on February 4th. The new train will pass here going west about 7:35 p.m., and going east about 8:15 p. m. This is a rumor and is not given as official. To Accept New Charter.
