of the high and graded school
made up a purse of $12.50 and sent
? tn New York to be added to the
war childrens relief fund. This fund
is being raised to give the children
in the war stricken sections of Europe
a happier Christmas than they
would get if their American friends
should not help them. The presents
that will be sent to them will not
only consist of toys, but also of
clothing and other necessities of life
It is estimated that 50 cents will buy
the things that will make one child
happy. The McCormick children
have therefore helped to make 25 of

Mr. J. D. Richardson and family
spent from Saturday until Tuesday

Mrs. W. H. Harmon and children
left Saturday to spend soihe time
with relatives at Fountain Inn.
The Iva high school basket ball
team played the McCormick high
school team last Saturday on the local
court, and defeated McCormick
by the score of 14 to 4. The McCormick
boys have shown great improvement
since their first appearance
in a match game and no doubt
j' ' before the season is over they will
be one of the Winning teams of this
section.

cemetery, 10 miles from Anderson.
Mr. and Mrs. Keaton have
the 'sincere sympathy of this community
in their sad bereavement.
Mr, W. 0. Sturkey, the old cotton
buyer, states he is now in the market
for the balance of the season
he was sick at first of season. He
sold his crop made on a two horsefarm
for $2,000 for cotton and $30G

two-horse farm in August. He sold
his crop here on this market at 22
and 24 cents a pound. His last year's
holdings, he sold on 24th of Augusl
at 15 cents a pound for 600 bales.

ically ill at their home on Oal
street. It is sincerely hoped thai
she will soon recover.
Local Bar Organized.
The members of the McCormicl
bar were entertained at a suppe]
on Monday evening at the hom<
of Mr." and Mrs. W. K. Charles, al
which time a bar association was
formed and the following offices
filled: W. K. Charles, president;
L. W. Harris, vice-president; T. M.
Ross, secretary and treasurer. After
full discussion, certain recom
mendations as to the time for holding
courts in the county, and as to
other matters in which the bar is
concerned, were approved and will
be submitted to tne county ueiemotion
in the general assembly. 1
It was decided that the count;
government be urged to purchase at
once a machine for typewriting intc
the record books all papers required
to be recorded. Practically all coun
ties have abandoned thfe old pen and
ink system of recording papers, and
it was thought that McCormici
should have her records properly
kept from the beginning.
The Teachers' Meeting.
The 1st teachers' meeting of McCormick
county was held in high
school auditorium last Saturday
There were about thirty teachers
present and all seemed enthusiastic
for the organization of a regular association
for this county.
Mr. T. J. Price, the Superintendent
of Education called the meeting
to order and stated the object of the
meeting. He made a fitting talk for
the occasion and offered his services
to all the teachers at all times, and
especially to their association, should
sne be formed. A motion was made
to organize a teachers' assicoation
for this county and was unanimously
carried. Mr. Huff of Willington, was
then elected chairman of the association
and Mr. Moody of McCormick,
secretary and treasurer. It was decided
to wait until the next meeting
to elect what other officers are needed
for the association. Mrs. Wm. S
Middleton of Meriwether, was present
and made an interesting talk or
temperance. She is trying to gel
that subject before every school ir
the county, and is offering prizes to
teachers and pupils for essays oz
the effects of alcohol. Mr. T. ' M
Ross of the local bar also made s
brief but interesting talk to the
teaehers. Then a general discussion
was entered into by all the teachers
as to how to make the association a
successful one. The outlook for it
iow is good and every effort will be
made to make the McCormick County
teachers' association one of the best
associations of its kind in the state.
