HILL > v * \ ; ( The marriage of Miss lone Smith 1 and Mr. David H. Hill, which took x place last night, has been the eagerly \ anticipated event of the season in a \ social way and brought to Abbeville \ e many friends of the young couple ^ . who came to extend their good wish- t - es and to wish them a long and happy life. 1 The ceremony took place at the e - home of the brides father, Mr. J. t 1 Allen Smith, Sr., Tuesday evening at c 9 six o'clock, October 24th, 1916, in s > the presence of a large concourse of ( friends and relatives. 1 The house was beautifully decor- I i ated for the occasion. The Misses i 1 Morse having this under their super* vision, they performed their task with 1 ' love, beautiful taste and skill, and i | under their deft fingers the house x became a bower of loveliness be- i t fitting the happy occasion. In the ? ' I hall and parlors the color scheme was i " white and green and southern ami- i lax looped with tulle trailed from the electrolier, outlined the doors t * and festooned the windows. In the s parlors where the ceremony was per- i > formed, a large bank of ferns was ' placed in the center of the room and * before this was placed two pedestals of white, surmounted by /brass urn t . filled with white chrysanthemums. Here the bridal party stood, enter- , j ing to the strains of Mendelsshons j. Wedding March played by Mrs. T. M. Marchant of Greenville. First came , r the little ribbon girls, Miss Emily , Morse and Miss Sarah Smith, -mak- , 9 * \ ing an aisle with broad white ribbon , 3 and taking their stand inside the , f folding doors. Miss Helen Smith and . Miss Susie Hill came next, followed , r by Miss Mary Smith and Miss Mary c Hill. The groom entered with his * brother, Mr. S."f. Hill and they were j 1 followed by Miss Grace Smith the , 1 maid of honor, who came in alone. 1 Little Grace Smith came next bearing B on her arm a basket of rose petals, which she scattered along the pathway of the bride. Ann Smith, an- , r other little niece of the bride, was i ? ring bearer and bore in the emblem j of this union on a silver waiter. The ( j party formed a semi-circle out from ] the pedestals to the center of which j y came the charming bride escorted by ( her father, joinintr hands with the i waiting groom and stood while the solemn ceremony was performed by j 5 Rev. H. Waddell Pratt, assisted by ( Dr. J. L. Martin, the ring ceremony being used. j 7 The bride was lovely in her dress , made along princess lines, of white < Duchess satin and rose point lace, ( with pearl trimmings. Her bridal ^ t veil was worn over the face and was ( showered with orange blossoms, while in her arms she carried a trailing bouquet of Lillies of the Valley. B The brides maids were charming ( - in their dresses of white tulle and ? silver metal cloth made in the prevailing style, and carrying in their ; y arms bouquets of pink Killarney i [1 roses. The maid of honor, Miss ~ ? ? * J r Grace Smith, was nanasome anu g stately in a dress of pink metal cloth . with silver trimmings, carrying also the Killarney roses. The little ribbon girls were dainty , r and sweet in their dresses of pink ^ . tulle, made accordion plaited in em- ^ P pire style with pink slippers and j . socks. Little Ann Smith, the ring bearer, wore ft white accordion plaited dress with the slippers and socks , s to match. e The groom and his attendant were ^ - in the regulation dress suits. , After the ceremony the guests were invited into the dining room , a and here the decorations were lovely ^ i and the scene a gay and happy one. ^ I, The table was laid in handsome i cluny pieces, the electrolier was , twined with smilax and streamers of pink tulle were caught at the four A J corners of the ' table. The center3 piece was a handsomely decorated j 1 cake while vases of pink carnations | c and platters of spun candy balls com- i pleted the beautiful decorations. Ree freshments of block cream in the 1 t center of which was molded a dainty . lady slipper, with heart shaped cakes s t and fruit cake were served by Misses 1 .1 Fannie Stark, Ida May Brownlee, 2 Louise Brown, Caroline Graves, Eliza t t Gary, Mamie Bowie, Mary Perrin, s Nellie Harden and Katherine Link, c all members of the Young Ladies -i,si.. &&. r,.. .. ... Before the ceremony the waiting quests enjoyed the lovely songs, "O "romise Me" and "Because," which vere so well rendered, by Miss Frances Robinson of Easley. In the back parlors where the wedling presents were displayed the de:orations were in yellow, vases of landsome chrysanthemums being ised. Never in the history of Abberille has a handsomer collection of vedding gifts been offered to a roung bride showing the firm hold vhich she has on the affections of he people of this city. After the reception Mr. and Mrs. lill left over the Seaboard for an sxtended trip North visiting most of he larger cities, returning by way >f Washington, where tney will visit ;everal days with Mr. and Mrs. W. x. Hill, after which they will return \o Abbeville and will live in the landsome house on E^lis street, now n the coarse of erection. Mrs. Hill is one of the most popuar and best beloved young women n Abbeville. Endowed with a bright nind and an affable and cordial manier, she numbers her friends in ev:ry walk in life and every one unites n wishing her a long life of happiiess. < ' j , Mr. Hill is a successful young atorney and he has the good wishes ind congratulations of a host of riends.
