the Mexican War. One by one thej

Mr. Wilkerson's father was a Brit
ish soldier who settled in Mecklen
berg County, N. C., in the year 1812
? Mr. John Wilkerson was born ir
Mecklenburg County in the yeai
1826. He married Miss Sara Hill Ve
rell in Laurens County, Dec. 29
1852. She was a daughter of Dr
John. Verell. After their marrag<
Mr. and Mrs. Wilkerson moved t<

were born.
Of these, Laura E. Wilkerson wa:
\ born Nov. 20, 1853 and died Augusl
16, 1855.
Augustus B. and Ella D. Wilker
son, twins, were born March 1, 1856
Ella was married twice. The firsl
' time with F. N. Blyth of New Mar
' ket, the second tme with A. J. Pound:
of Bradley. She died in 1886. Au
gustus died in. the year 1889. H<
was never married.
Lod H. Wilkerson was born Marcl
' 26, 1858. Forty years ago he movec
to White Hall, from which place h<
moved to Abbeville about five year
ago. At present he is a resident o:
this community.

man. They have lived at AbbevilL
ever since their marriage.
Mr. John M. Wilkerson was bon
Feb. 28, 1863. He married Mis
. Lula Mann, daughter of the late "W
j D. Mann. To them were born fiv
sons, being the only grand childrei
of Mr. WiiKerson.
He suffered none, but passed awa;
quietly on Friday morning, at hi
home here, June 3, 1910, aged 8
y years. ;
While not rich in the general ac
ceptance of the term today, still h
had a competence of this world'
goods and lived the life of an humbl<
honest, respected citizen.
His wife was born n the same yea
that he was born, r826. They live
together 58 years, and she is now i
fairly good health mentally and phj
. sically. Their married life was mof
happy, they were lovers even unt
the dar of ?*eath.
Mr. Wilkerson was perfe tly recor
ciled to his fate. He told Rev. Mi
Stokes his spiritual advise that th
Lord had been good to hLr and ha
blest him with health and freedoi
from pain for many long y*ir;.
The funeral at the house was cor
ducted on Saturday morning by th
Rev. Henry Stokes in the presence c
a goodly company composed largel
of the older citizens who had come t
pay honor to the oldest man in th
community and to his bereaved fan
ily.
