On the 13th, the house formerly occupied by Cuff Walker, the body' servant of the late James Edward Calhoun, was entirely consumed by fire. This house was one of the old landmarks of Millwood, and has been occupied by several generations of the Walkers. Mr. A. S. Cox, who has been quite ill for the past two weeks, has entirely recovered, much to the grati fication of his many friends. V Mrs. W. P. Harrison, who has been sojourning for the past several weeks at Indian Springs, returned Aome last week. On the 14th, Miss Gladys Bell, the youngest daughter of R. 0. Bell, in alighting from a swing, broke the small bone of the leg. The Baptist society of the Mill church, have been holding a series of meetings during the past weekr and with good results. / W. J. Blake and family^ and'S. A. Wakefield and family, have been spending the past week at Millwod. J. G. Carlisle, has had buil$ for him at Millwood, a rustic /cottage, and is now located for the summer &t that place. Miss Emily M. Hester of Mt. Car mel, is a guest of Mrs.xM. C. Baker. C. H. Taylor, has the contract to build the new town hall, and will commence operations in a few days.The building will be of brick, and will consist of two rooms, one for the business.of the; Council, and the other for a guard house. The bankrupt stock of W. E. Anderson, .was sold at auction on the 17th, for.$165, and the books and accounts for. $14.00, bpth bought by S. J. Hester. .<The stock was invoiced for $418. tJnder the direction of W. J. Blake, trustee, E. N. Tucker, M. E. Gambrell and S. J. Howard, inventoried the stock of goods of W. E. Anderson on the 8th; the amount being $418.33. ' It is said that the good swill be sold at auction on the 17 th next. On the 8th, Robert Gilliam, while operating a threshing macchine, was caught in the machinery, and very seriously injured. ? The 4th was a very quiet day in Calhoun Falls owing to ; the^ ?ainy weather; th$ only symptom of a holiday was the closing of the f Calhoun Mills, much to the regret of the operatives. Mr. McAffe, A. F. Greeny and Harold Byrd, of Atlanta, were the guests of W. J. Blake on the 4th. Miss Alma Hall, of Lowndesville, is visiting her brother, G. 0. Hall. The victim was shot sometime in the day and died that night. Maj. J. B. Huckabee was summoned by phone Monday morning, and went down in company with Dr. T. 0. Kirkpatrick, as medical expert, and held an inquest. It was shown there, that the day before while three of Mr. Crittenden's sons, one' about grown, and the other two smaller, were walking along the road they overtook a negro and they walked on together, when | one of the boys asked the negro to [lend him his knife, it was handed to j him. The remains of the deceased were carried to Smyrna cemetery on Monday and laid away, which was the second to be placed in that cemetery in the past few months, whose death was caused by violence at the hands of a negro, and both funerals were held by the same minister, Rev.
