Haddon was born in Abbeville dis trict, South Carolina, January 18,1830. He was graduated from Erskinc College and euternd upon life's duties full of hope and hi#h iaspirations. In 1861 he enlisted in the Confederate Army and served with un wavering devotion to the cause of the South. He pushed his way unflinchingly to the front rank of battle and in Septem ber, 18G3, while lighting under General lL.ongstreet, at Knoxville, he was wounded seriously and taken by the enemy. After several months' confinement in the Fed eral hospital, he was transferred to a mil itary prison, where he remained until the summer of 1865. The same fidelity to duty characterized Mr. Haddon's affairs in after life. In all his actions he illustrated the qualities 01 noble manhood. One of his comrades writes about him in this manner: "A good man has gone, ad mired and beloved while living, mourned when dead- On his grave the morning sun will rise, the evening twilight fade. The hand of affection will plant the roso and the myrtle. As the years go by the stars will shine upon it, the winter winds will shriek above it and in the spring timej I the molody of the bird song and the per-; !furc.e of the flowers environ it.
