CHEEK The community was saddened Sun day by the announcement of the death of Mrs. Lois Cheek, wife of Mr. John A. Cheek, which occurred at her home Sunday afternoon, November 10, 1912. Mrs. Cheek had been sick only a short while, and her condition was not re garded as serious until Sunday rnorn imr RA?ir1pH h??r hnshand. Mrs. Cheek leaves two sisters, Misses Mae and Eugenia Robertson, of^Abbeville, and two brothers, J. Totvnes Robertson, of Vicksburg, Miss., and Allen M. Rob ertson, of Oklahoma. The funeral services were held yes terday morning at 11 o'clock and a concourse of sorrowing friends fol lowed the body to its last resting place. "May God grant that the benedic tion of such a life may rest upon us all." Mrs. Cheek was the second daugh ter of Colonel J. T. Robertson, who was a citizen of Abbeville all his life. He was a merchant at home, and sol dier in the Confederate army. Courage ous and brave, he faced danger in the camp and in all the battles around Richmond. Some idea of the fatality among those who were with him may be had from the fact that he went out as Lieutenant in Company B, Orr's Rifles and before the close of hostil ities he had been promoted by senior ity to Lieutenant-Colonel of the Regi ment. In one engagement all the field officers were killed. Fighting to the last he never falter ed in loyalty to the cause of Southern rights. And after the war he was loy al to the day of his death to the cause for which he had fought. Active in all the relations of citizenship, he took a leading part in the redemption of the State from Republican rule, and in his death he leaves the heritage of a good name to his children, whose lives have proved worthy of a worthy sire. MATTISON.MAHON The following account of the mar riage of one of Abbeville's popular young men is taken from The State: Denmark, Nov. 9.?Tuesday even ing the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Zeigler was the scene of a very pret ty wedding, when their niece, Miss Wakefield Mattison, was wedded to Dr. Douglass Mahon, of Abbeville. At 7 o'clock, to the strains of Men delssohn's wedding march, rendered by Miss Annie Lou Byrd, of Bamberg, the minister, Dr. Watson, took his place in the parlor. From a room beyond came two of the bridesmaids, Misses Jennie Causey and Kate Mc Sween, dressed in white lingerie, car rying yellow chrysanthemums, tied with ribbons to match. Then came Misses Wilson and Clark, followed by the dame of honor, Mrs. Burch, of Columbia in gold, with green ribbons. Next, the maid of honor, Miss Juanita Hewitt, in blue, followed by little Miss Lina Zeigler, scattering rose petals before the bride, who came in with her uncle, Mr. Zeigler, and was met by the groom and his best man, Mr. Mahon. Only a few of the bride and groom's most intimate friends witnessed the ucicmuuj. iut' tci ciiiuiij ait in formal reception was tendered to which a great many of the Denmark people came. These friends first passed the receiving line and were then carried into the dining room where the color scheme of yellow and white was artis tically carried out. There they were served with delicious cream and cakes and were then taken to the punch bowl and served this delicious nectar. Mr. and Mrs. Mahon left on the night train for the South and will be at home after the 12th to their friends in Abbeville. Dr. and Mrs. Mahon arrived in Ab beville Friday evening. LODGE MEETING An important meeting of Clinton Lodge, No. 3, A. P. M., will be held this evening at 8 o'clock, at which a large class will be passed. A full attendance is expected. One of tlic best women on all the face of this earth, writes from the Athens of learning, from the home of religion, from the scenes of patriotic emotion, In part as follows: "Due West, Nov. 7th.
