The marriage of Miss lone Allen
Miller to Mr. Ervin Blakeney Stack, of
Monroe, X. C., was solemnized at the
Methodist church Wednesday after
noon at five o'clock. Rev. G. E. Leon
ard officiating.
The church was lovely with its
drapery of snowy white over which
long graceful frons of Southern smi
lax trailed. The altar was banked with
ferns and palms. An arch of green
cedar from which was suspended the
wedding bell made from tulle and
tender sprays of smilax. The church
was filled to its capacity with invited
guests, who enjoyed the musical pro
gram that was so delightfully rend
ered. Miss Maude McClung and Miss
Fannie Starke sang "I Feel Thy An
gel Spirit." Then Miss Starke sang
"Schubert's Serenade." The first sweet
strains of Mendelssohn's wedding
march, played by Miss Lorena Beach

Next came Little Miss Elizabeth

at the altar by the groom, who enter

The bride wore a taupe-shaded whip

Again tho people are up against the
question of buying new school books and

sion. It certainly seems to us an imposi
tion, and a useless one at that, of adopt
ing new books so often. This matter
should be looked into by the patrons. Tho
last year's books (good as new) cannot

Last Friday night, between 3 and 4
o'clock in the'mornlng, a fire broke out In a
dwelling &i, the cotton mill occupied by Mrs
Cox, who lost everything. The house was
burnt to the ground and a total loss. Sub
stantial aid was given Mrs. Cox In the
3hape at a purse ot forty dollars, pre
sented by the mill -folk, which was v?ry
praiseworthy, as well as acceptable to
