Th? county executive committee met
at tin* Anderson court house Thursday
at noon and after spending some time
in considering when was the proper
time to consider protests and contests,
jot down to the business of the meet
ing.
It was decided that tlio time for
hearing protests would be at a future
meeting of the committee, w.hich date
would be decided after the tabulation
of the statements of the results of the
boxes had been tabulated according 10
the managers' reports. After this
point had been settled, the boxes
were brought in and the work of tab
ulating llie vote commenced. This j
work was still in progrsss as we go
to press and will probably take thtt I

The total appropriations for the fis
cal year 1913, which began July 1, 1912,
amount to $1,019,636,143.GG,as given to Hie
senate and house today by Senator War- (
ren and Representative Fitzgerald, re- (
spectively chairmen of the two appropria
tion committees.
It is conceded by both of these leaders
that this is $7,046,000 less than the nations
budget of 1912, but it remained for former I
Speaker Cannon, iii behalf of the Republi
can forces of tho house to produce figures
I/O show that the present Democratic con
gress actually had appropriated more for
general purposes than did the preceding
Republican congress.
Representative Cannon declared that
out of the general total should bo taken all
expenditures made for the Panama canal.
With such deductions, ho said, the total
appropriations for l'J13 would be $!)90,(>5(i,
143, as compared with a total of *981,122,

year.

Representative Cannon. Senator Warren
said President Taft and his cabinet had
carefully reduced estimates to the lowest

Not Complete.
MANY WILL HAVE TO RUN OVER
Anderson Elects Solid Hlea.se

ed in Richland.
The News and Courier of Thursday
summarizes the legislative situation as
follows:
Additional and more complete returns
from races in practically all of the coun
ties of the State are presented by The
News and Courier this morning. A second
primary will be necessary in so many
counties for members of the House of
Representatives that It is impossible at
this time to forecast with and degree of
accuracy the complexion of the next Leg
islature.
In Orangeburg, for instance only one
Representative, a Jones supporter, was
'nominated on the first liallot, while the
second race will be made by candidates,
au 01 wnom ueciuruu on uic t>iuniji 101 wic
former Chief Justice.
In Anderson, a full 151cii.se delegation,
including "Josh" Ashley, was chosen aiul
only two candidates on the 131ea.se ticket,
for other Anderson County offices, failed
of election.
Dr. Olin Sawyer, a prominent supporter
of the Governor, was defeated for re-elec
tion in Georgetown, and in Horry, the
15lease candidate fur the Senate, Repre
sentative L. 15. Singleton, appears to have
been beaten by Hul L. Buck.
Thomas F. McDow, anti-Blea.se, has been
elected to the Senate from Voi le, and Sen
ators llobert Lide, of Orangeburg, and
Howard 15. Carlisle, of Spartanburg, both
also anti-Kloaso, were re-elected.
"Hub" Evans, who formerly served in
the House from Newberry, is in a second
race with Representative Wye lie.
George 11. ltembert, Governor Mease's
leader in the House, and Alva II. Lump
kin, opposed to the Governor, are elected
in Kichlaml. Tins remaining placid will
be lilled by a second primary. Former
Speaker Mendel L. Smith has been re
turned to the House from Kershaw, and
Senator Ohiiatensen, of Iteaufort, retains
his seat, having defeated his opponent,
Thomas Talbird, a Mease man.
