Newest Freak of Fashion Will be Wear ing Anklets. London, Dec. 13?Of the making of the strange fashions there is no bnd. The hobble skirt seemed to be the limit, but now the English ladies are using anklets as articles of personal adornment. Very swagger anklets are now offered by many of the London shops. , The anklet idea is the outcome Jof the1 Eresent fashion of verp short dresses, high neled shoes, and brilliagtly colored stock ings, which in itself is baa enough with out the addition of a bangle to further attraot attention. The fashion, it goes without saying, comes from Paris, where it has taken up to an extent, but only by those inclined to eccentricity in dress. But, after all, the wearing of anklets would be merely the revival or an oia fashion. Three generations ago it was not unusual to see a bangle around the ankle and a famous wearer of this ornament was the, wife of the third Duke of Cleveland, the old duchess who died in 1883, at the age of 91. She had very small feet, and, to display them would often sit at u table and jlet her anklets fall down over her foot* One day a friend equally preiid of her small foot, asked the duchess, or Lady Carolie Powlett, as she was in her younger days?if she might try and ?et the anklet over her ,foot. Lady Caroline consented, and, to her great dismay, her friend was able not only to put it on, but to kick it off, so easily did her foot go through. / , mi BE BALD.
