To Raise Supplies for tlie City
of Abbeville, S. C., for the
fiscal Year 1911.
Be it ordained by the mayor
ami Aldermen of the City of Abbe-,
ville, S. C., in Council assembled and by j
authority of the same, That a tax for the i
sums ami in a manner hereinafter named
shall be raised and paid into the treasury
of the City Council for the uses and purposes
thereof for the fiscal year 1011.
Notice is hereby given that the office of
City Treasurer of Abbeville, S. C., will be
open for the collection of taxes for said fiscal
year 1911, from Tuesday, November!,
1910, until Saturday, December 31, 1910, i
without penalty.
Rates per centum of taxation are as follows
:
City tax (live) 5 nulls
Waterworks tax (Interest on bonds
and sinking fund) (two) 2 mills
Electric Liprht tax < Interost on bonds
and sinking fund) (two) 2 mills
Sewerage tax (Interest on (totals
sinking fund) (two) 2 mills
That when the taxes and assessments or
any portion thereof charged against the
property or party on the tax books of the
city for the fiscal year 1911, shall not be
paid on or before the first day of January,
1911, the City Treasurer shall proceed to
add a penalty of one per cent, on the tux
book, and the City Treasurer shall collect
the same, and if the said taxes, assess- i
raents and penalties are not naid on or be
fore the first day of February next there- i
after, an additional penalty of one pereen- i
turn shall be added by the City Tresisurer,
and if said taxes, assessments and penal- i
ties are not paid on or before the first day
of March next thereafter, an additional
penalty of live per centum thereon shall
be added by the City Treasurer and be collee
ted by him; and if the said taxes, assessments
and penalties are not paid on or
before the fifteenth day of March next
thereafter, the said City Treasurer shall issue
his tax execution for said taxes, assessments
and penalties against the property
of the defaulting taxpayers according
to ltfw.
.# commutation road tax will be collected
the same time as other taxes from all male
citizens between the ages <,f is and 50
years, except those exempted by law.
This commutation tax is as follows: The
sum of two dollars payable before March
31st, lid 1; the sum of two and 50-100 dollars
if not paid until and during the month
of April, 11)11; the sum of three dollars if
not paid until and during the mouth of
Maw 1911. In lieu of this tux six dues
work upon the highways ami streets of the
city will be required under the Street Overseer.
Ail persons failing or refusing to pay the
commutation tax or to wo?*k six full days
shall upon conviction bo lined not more
than thirty dollars or bo imprisoned not
more than thirty days.

had been a Missionary to Mexico for ten
years, and, having an eye to business,
added that he was writing a book which
ho hoped members of the congregation
might buy.
For about one hour, or perhaps a little
q shorter time, the Missionary recited statements
showing the degradation of the
0 Catholics of Mexico. Although these old
0 stories of the bad Catholics in Mexico
0 have become a littlo wearisome the peoplo
