Mrs.A.J. Davis and Mrs. G. W. Long
. are in Wayncsville, N. C., for a couple of
weeks.
Dr. and Mrs. E. Pay son Kennedy of Atlanta
were down among relatives in this
vicinity recently.
Miss* Ethel Wells of Mt. Carmel was a
pleasant visitor with her cousins the Misses
Horton of 11. F. D. 1, hist week.
Postmaster Young was delighted with
his drive in Capt. Andrews' auto around
his territory one day last week, and could
make the trip easily in one and a hall
hours if it were not for his schedule time,
Rev. Ira S. Caldwell, one of Newberry
county's popular pastors, ably assisted
Rev. R. F. Bradley in his meeting at Long
Cane.
The letters in the Press and Banner from
Marburg, Germany, are specially interesting
because of the fact a patriotic American,
a noble South Carolinian, and a loyal
"Trojan" son wields the ready pen. This
honored father has a just right to feel
groud of his sons. One holds a responsile
position in the city schools of Abbeville,
another in the Bank Of McCormick
one in the Bank of Troy, and still anothei
in thp upper portion of Abbeville county
. while one is in Germany, further prosecut
ing his studies in the languages, to pro
pare young men lor greater ileitis 01 use
fulness. Now, why should he feel other
wise ?
Now that election days are over, ant

Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Burnett were called
to Amity, Ga., last Thursday by the serious

Miss Eddins of Mississippi, Misses Rebecca
and Lula Wideman of Greenwood,
are Miss Jennie Wideman's pleasant guests
at her pretty Long Cane home.
A big lumber plant. With all- its belongings,
will soon be opened here by Mr. Lawson
of Abbeville. This is a greatly needed
enterprise and we are sore Troy will give
this young man a hearty welcome, as well
as co-operation. The machinery is here,
and an acre of land has been bought or the
Oil Mill to build the plant.
Miss Clara Wideman of Long Cane and
one of the teachers-elect are enjoying a
trip to Washington, D. C., with a stop over
at Norfolk, Va., to visit relatives.
The dust is almost intolerable; real cool,
and no rain in seven weeks. Crops are
sorry and farmers are blue.
The picnic at Pine Grove school house,
over which Miss Mary Britt of Buffalo so
satisfactorily and competently presides,
was a grand success last Friday. Plenty
of good folks, an abundance of good 'cue
and picnic dinner, perfect order and a
pleasant time generally. The kind people
of that community have a mighty warm
spot in our heart, having taught there'two
years. Thanks to Miss Mary Britt (our
cousin) for her invitation.
