JOHNSON WINS
* . .
JEFFRIES IS KNOCKED
' OUT IN FIFTEENTH
ROUND
By W. W. NAIGHTON
Reno, Nev., July 4.?Jack Johnson proved
himself Jim Jeffries' master to-day at every
stage of the battle, even the great test 01
strength that was expected seemed to be
in Johnson's favor. In the early rounds
with the pressue of his glove he twisted
Jeffries' left arm almost into the hammerlock
position to prevent the big fellow using
it while breaking.
While the rounds went on and Johnson's
confidence came to him he took ail kinds
of liberties with Jeffries. As a rule Johnson
whips his men with his right uppercut.
He used it a few times today, but it
} was left hooks and left uppercuts. while
clinching that brought Jeffries to terms.
In the first fighting Jeffries was powerless
after a few rounds nad passed. He could
not devise any way to escape punishment
while they were feinting and swinging at
close quarters. It seemed the easiest
thing in the world for Johnson to free his
left arm and tilt the big fellow's head.
First of all blood came from Jeffries'
mouth and then his right eye closed. His
nose poured blood. After the sixth round
the battle had a decidedly Johnson flavor.
Jeffries got in a few body blows while going
into a clinch, but he was slowly chop
pert to pieces and all of Johnson's nest
licks 'were put on Jeffries when they were
coming1 together. In the fifteenth round
he was knocked down three times with left
hooks delivered by Johnson while standing
away Sam Berger was entering the ring
on tne occasion of the last knockdown to
acknowledge defeat and in the meantime
Jeffries was declared out.
Official Timekeeper Hailing announced
that only eight seconds had elapsed when
Berger jumped into the ring to protect
Jeffries from further punishment. Hailing
says Jeffries would have been counted
out, as he could not have straightened up
before the count. Owing to Berger's inter-]
ference the victory will be counted as a
knockout.

?* J ^? V-' - Tell
Her So.
I Amid the cares of married life,
In spite of toil and business strife,
If you value your sweet wife,
Tell her so.
Prove to her you don't forget,
The bond to which the seal is set:
She's of life's sweet the sweetest yet,
Tell her so.
When days are dark and deeply blue,
She has troubles same as you;
Show her that your love is true,
Tell her so.
There was a time you thought it bliss,
To get a favor of one kiss;
A dozen now won't come amiss,
Tell her so.
Your love for her is no mistake,
You feel it dreaming or awake;
Dont conceal it, for her sake, .
Tell her so,
Don't act. if she has passed her prime,
As thought to please her were a crime;
If e'er you loved her, now is the time,
Tell her so.
She'll return for each caress,
A hundred fold of tenderness;
Hearts like hers were made to bless;
Tell her so,
You are hers and hers alone,
Well vnn ktmw she's all vou own:
Don't'wait to carve it on"a stoue,
Tell her so.
Never let her heart grow cold,
Richer beauties will unfold;
She is worth her weight in gold;
Tell her so.

IT'S YOUR KIDNEYS
Don't Mistake the Canwe of Your
Troubles-An Abbeville Citizen
Shown How to Cure irbcm.
Many people never suspect their kidneys.
If suffering from a lame, weak
or aching back they think *that it U
only a muscular weakness; when urinary
trouble sets in they think it will
soon correct itself. And so it is with
all the other symptoms of kidney disorders.
That is just where the danger
lies. You must cure these troubles or
they may leud to diabetes or Bright's
disease. The best remedy to use is
Doau's Kidney Pills. It cures all ills
which are caused by weak or diseased
kidneys. Abbeville people testify to
permanent cures.
J. C. Black, Main St., Abbeville,
8. C., says : "I have used Doau's
Kidney Pills and must say that I
am well pleased with the results.
I was feeling miserable for some
time as the result of backache and
pains across my kidneys. I was
also lame and sore aud irregular
naanBTOa nf the kirinev secretions
caused me annoyance. I had heard
Doan's Kidney Pills highly recommended
for Buch troubles and
going to P. B. Speed's drug store, I
procured a box. They helped me
a great deal and I have had but little
pain or distress since."

Third Annual Convention of tlio
Abbeville County Intor-donominafional;
Sunday School Convention was hold in the;
.Mfl.ho.list church at Abbeville on Juno 21st
1 au<I 22nd. A most excellent program had
boon arranged and was earned out with
very little change.
After a short devotional service, the'
President J. S. Morse made1110 report for,
thataflice and for the Secretary. .Mr. *J.j
M. Oanibrell, Treasurer. Ihon followed!
with his report which showed all pledges'
paid and a small surplus left. j
Dr. MotTatt, President of Erskino college
addressed the meeting on "The Sunday
School Teacher*'and was followed by liov.
Mr. Green, |>iistor of tin"! Presbyterian
Church. (ire.'iiwood, S. ('.. whose subject
was, "Host, Methods of st udying Sunday!
School I.ess.ms". These two addresses'
alone were worth the t rip to this convention
to say nothing ofc the < thor lino and I
instructive talks.
On Wednesday, the second day of the
convention l!ov. P. 15. Wells so well known j
in Abbeville, butHnow located in Anderson
conducted the opening exercises.
After this, the delegates wore enrolled j
representing twenty two Sunday Schools;
in various parts of the county out of a total
of sixty.
No more interesting talker and indnfat igable
worker can be found perhaps than
Miss(?race Vaudiver of Spartanburg who
is State Supt. of the Primary Dept. (f the

discuss by Rev. E. B. Kennedy;
of the A. R. P. church Abbeville.
On Tuesday night Mr. Geo. Hodges Supt'
Presbyterian S. S. Greenwood made a lino

Rev. J. B. Dendy, pastor of the Baptist
church, Lowndesvillo addressed the meeting
Wednesday afternoon 011 "Jesus us a
Teacher" a subjcct most admirably handled
and instructive to tho audience.
The Exocutive committee fixed the date
Of next meeting for Thursday and Friday
before the fourth Sunday in July 1011. It
is believed that this date will better suit
for tho country churches jib the farmers
will be bettor up with their work and can
bettor attend.
It is honed that, every Sunday School of
every denomination will take up this work I
and send a full delegation next time. The I (

I have been using "Richardson's
n" Liver Tonic" in my home for some
irg
al months past and find it an excellent
j preparation. It has served as a subits
atitute for calomel, giving the desired
ie- effect without the usual nausea followli
ing a dose of calomel, and leaving the
w liver in normal activity. 1 recommend
it without hesitation.
