with the well known firm of E. A. Saunder's
Sons' Company, of Richmond. He
will enter upon nis new duties in a few
days. Mr. Miller has conducted a fancy
grocery business successfully for a number
of years. His friends hope for his every
success in his new,business.
Mrs. W. D. Barksdale and her children
are in Greenwood spending some time
with her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Durst.
Mr. Code Morgan was here from Monroe
to attend the Taggart-Benton wedding.

Bonar White has completed his four year

both delivered instructive lectures Sunday
morning. The subject of both lectures

EAGLE KILLED IN SALUDA.
Fine Specimen of National Bird Brought
Down by Negro,
Saluda.?On Friday afternoon, near this
town, a negro living on W.|W. Stone's place,
killed an eagle, which measures six feet,
five inches from tip to tip of its wings.
Nothing like it has ever been seen in this
community and it is proving a great curiosity.
When the negro saw it the bird was
being followed by an army of crows. It
found a resting place on the top of a broken
off pine, near the negro's house, and wldle
engaged in fighting the crows that were
following it the negro rode to within thirty
yards of the tree unobserved. Then, slip
pmg to tne ground, he fired upon the eagle
and brought him down. The shot did
did not kill the great bird, but rendered
him unable for the moment to fly. The
darky rushed to him and, despite tne danger
from bill and claw, severed his head
rom the body.
