ment was made several days ago of the
j purchase of the properties of the Anderson
Traction Company by a syndicate
composed of the Dukes and several prominent
citizens of the Piedmont section of
South Carolina. Auuouneement was made
today by a committee representing the
syndicate that it is the intention of the
new purchasers to extend the AndersonBelton
line from Belton to Greenville, and
as soon as that is completed, a line will be
built from Greenville to Spartanburg, and
ulttmatcly the line will be extendod to
fti'oanuluini via Charlotte. It is also ail
nounced that the lino will bo extended
soutnward from Helton to tup the Seaboard
Air Line, either at Greenwood or
Abbeville, the latter the more probable.
A freight service will be given, a.s well as
u passenger service, and the line will compete
with all other steam lines. Thus
| Anderson and Greenville will be given
close connection with the Carolina, ClinchFiold
and Ohio railroad at SpaVjanburg,
and with the main lino of tho Seaboard
Air .Line, thereby giving points in this
section ideal service and low rates. In|announcing
the plans of the new purchasers
the committee today sent letters to several
prominent business men, which in part
reads.
" It is the purpose of tho buyers of the
Anderson Traction Company to at once
extend the line from Delton to Greenville,
and after completion of said line to extend
the system to Spartanburg, We have no
right to speak authoritatively in the matter,
but feel that in all probability, the
system will be r.ipldly extended to Greensboro,
N. C., on UiO north side, and some
point 011 tho south that will put tho sys\
tem in touch with a competing railway
system that is not at present of value to
this and counties to the north of us, and
such connection cannot help but be of immense
advantage to this and neighboring
communities, it is the purpose of the
promoters of this railway system to use
electrical motive power which will bo furnished
at a reasonable cost, but tho system
will not. he confined to a o.'issenger
service, but will be used for both passenger
and freight service and will enter into
active competition with other lines of
railways for the business of the communities
through which it passes. The purchasers
of this property wish the home
people to be part owners of the property,
and extend an invitation to you to subscribe
for stock on exactly the same basis
as the promoters. Kindly advifce at once
whether you wish to subscribe and the
amount, so that the committee may have
the information in hand not later than No- [
vember 23. In conclusion we would urge
that while the stock lias practically been
placed, it would be in the interest of this
community to subscribe as liberally to the
stock as each individual feels his ability to
subscribe, thereby gaining anv advantage
.individually that may accrue and at the
same time phowi ng a willingness-'on the
part of the community to foster an enterprise
that evidently points to unlimited
advantage to the community."

Word came here Thursday, that Mr. J.
B. Latimer a native of this places, a late)
graduate of Wofford College, who since
then had had charge of a flourishing
school at Oswego, Sumter Co., was quite
sick; his stepfather Dr. T. 0. Kirkpatrick
left at once for thatvplaee. Thq Dr. has
returned leaving his stepson in a much
improved condition.
Mr.W. A. Latimer of Augusta was here
on business, for a few days last <Veek.
Mr. T, D. Cooley, and family moved in8
to the Latimer dwelling, a late purchase,
a few days ago. Mr. Cooley had- had the
I dwelling remodeled and made much more
I convenient, up-to-date inside, and much
more attractive on the outside, and now
has a most desirable homo.
We had several of the heaviest frosts'
last week of the season, and some ice, but
the late fall.flowera, chrysanthemums, are
still in all of their glory. Some roses in
sheltered places arejstill delighting the
eyes of flower lovers? '.
Mrs. Archie Watson, of'Abbeville C. H.,
was with the family of her son-in-law Mr.
J. F. Gibert for several days last week.
Mr. and Mrs J. M. Baker of Washington,
D. C? have been hero since last Friday was
a week ago, at the home of Mrs. T. Baker
mother of the lirst named.
Bev. A. J. Cauthen. -P. E., of Anderson
C. held a quarterly meeting at Salem
(Latimer) yesterday and the day before.
He came here Sunday evening and occupied
the^ pulpit In the Methodist church
at 7:30 P. M. and gave to bis hearers one
of his instructive, acceptable sormons.

time at the home of her son-in-law, Prof.
