Oi Thanksgiving and the OrphansIn view of the fact that Thanksgiving ly or the Sunday following, is the only lurch collection, recommended by the 'nods of South Carolina, Georgia and lorida to be taken up for their orphans. yi he following items in regard to the Thorn- . ell Orphanage, which is owned by the ai iree synods aforesaid, may be of interest at i the readers of this paper. S. The Thorn well Home and School for 19 rphans was founded in 1875, opening its. fo oors to eight fatherless children. It had tt ne small cottage. This one building has sD icreased to sixteen (two shortly to be jmpleted) and each cottage will give a Ll ome to twenty pupils, more or less. In !85, the school was so graded as to cover ai >urteen years, and in 1892 a Technical de- Jl artment was added, so that the boys b1 light be taught some useful trade. Up to ' lat date, farming was the only business e{ lught. This education is given entirely p ;ee to deserving orphans of any denomi- ~ ation and from any part of our country. & I ear a thousand youths have been under le ;s influence and enjoyed its training. The sc rovision for the support, education and b< ther expenses of these children, (265 now rith us) is derived from personal donations f interested persons, or from church and unday school collections. " The Thornwell Orphanage Is located in !linton,So. Ca., at the crossing oftheSea- r*oAlt VMrta onH AtlontiA Pnnsf. T.inA _ lailways. It is under Presbyterian influ- 1 nee and control but does not refuse aid to ny on account of religious differences. ^ lo surrender of children to its guardian- 1 hip is required of relatives. Pupils may eave at their own choice if they do not vish to remain. Children are not given bl iut to service. The only business of the ^ nstitution is to teach and train them. The rphans' interest is the first consideration. i( Che presiding head of the Orphanage is p iev.wm. P. Jacobs who receives gifts for he support and applications for the admis-1 >ion of pupils. - b If you want to sell your real estate list f lib me. Robt. S. Link. LACONICS FROM TROY.
