Mr. Editor, I wish to answer an article that appeared in your paper of last week. It seems that some would doubt the fact that I had three mules to die in three days, but nevertheless it is a fact. All three died from eating what is known as sneeze weed, which grows in some pastures. I have been told that A. R. Robertsou lost three head of stock here on this same place from the same cause in the course of one year, and that a negro aNo lost two mules in oue year. I did not know that there was sneeze weed in my pasture until it was too late to save my stock. Mr. Henry Hall will vouch for me in this matter, for he helped me to haul the dead mules away. He said that he thought the mules were poisoned. Mr. J. B. Ashley can also vouch for the fact. Very respectfully, Timms. THE ELECTION. Most Exacting Ever Held Here. No one voted here yesterday without his credentials. The managers uniformally Required both receipts and certificate before the voter was allowed to cast bis ballot. Many who came to vote had to return home and look up the required papers before voting. The tickets were printed thus: For sale and manufacture of alcoholic liquors and beverages. Against sale and manufacture of alcoholic liquors and beverages. There was some speculation In dulged in on the part of vdters as to wbat the word ''manufacture" meant in this connection, whether it meaus the right to make or distill whiskey or simply blending of whiskeys. This election was the most exacting ever held in this county. Many who came to vote returned without voting. There were no exceptions. Not much interest was manifested on either side. . SOUTH CAROLINA NOT YET A SAHARA. One Week's Trial of Statewide Prohibition Shows Seizures of Eleven Thousand Bottles of Beer, 200 Gallons of Whiskey, and 300 Gallons of Keg Beer. Columbia, Aug. 8.?(Special.)?After one week's trial, in South Carolina statewide prohibition appears to be a farce, especially in the larger towns. UAiunw/va rtf iirUiotrAn n n Kaai* m o/lo klT UCi^ui co vi w uiotvcj auu utu* utauo uj the constabulary in Charleston and Columbia amounted for the week to 11,000 bottles of teer, 200 gallons of whiskey and 300 gallons of beg beer. Reports from smaller towns are meagre. Thousands of dollars were spent for liquors in anticipation of the dry spell md as this has not yet been consumed, the officers of the law have not run into as much blind tigerism as is expected in'another week. Whiskey s being shipped into the state as usual. ?|l rhe State of South Carolina, ABBEVILLE COUNTY. Probate Court?Citation for Letters of Administration. By J. F. Miller, Esq., Judge of Probate.
