The Abbeville Press and Banner! - '~i BY W. W. & W. R. BRADLEY. ABBEVILLE, 8. C.s WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31, 1909. ESTABLISHED 1844 * ARE YOU PAYING YOUR DEBTS? The best Reader in the State. By Charles Petty. It will be well to take an inventor of eredits and assent now and then an see how you stand. The account ha to be made up some day aud a balauc stuck. Then it will be known whethe you are a defaulter oran hone-t persor There is no getting around the fim accounting. This has no reference t debts that are couuted in dollars an cents. If you do not pay those debt when you can, you are simply dishoc est and will carry your dishonest; with you i*.to another life. But there are debts of another natur that you owe and tbe paymaster it a inexorable as fate itself. You hav been blessed wilh health, physios streugth, food, many friendn, gram opportunities, open fountuins of know ledge, unspeakable kindness, helpfu neigbborn, the abounding love of cliil dren. That has all come to you witl little effort on your part. Do you sup pose it is a free gift just to be hoardei up by you in a selfish way? Tne miser who digs a hole and hide his dollars i? more respectable ati< more worthy of heaveu than the n;is er who has been receiving best thing from God, his neighbors, the state an< society. and never pays anything bach It is the duty oi oue readiug a goo( book to pa*H the be*t thought on I some one else. Knowledge of bes things boarded is kuowledge lost; whei given out to others its value is doubled If one is in love with his fellow mei it takes very little to remove burden from the struggling ones, to comfor the distressed, to help tbe weak. Tlx world is in need of help. The littl child at school, tbe college student clerks, factory hands, farmers, ni?-i aud women all need tbe help o others. Are yon, dear madam, paying off a! tbe debts you owe for the thou?an< privileges you have enjoyed? Or ar you in a selfish and mean way receiving from all pouices and giving Loth iug in return? These debts cannot b< paid iu money. A carload of gob would not cancel one debt of love ant mercy due to your neighbors. It is i fearful thing to pass a whole day in i crowded city, or even on the farm without doing a good deed or saying i kind word to man, woman or child? There are people here in this city suf . feringin mind for kind attention. Th happiest man or woman at tbe close o this week will be tbe one who has b' word or deed helped some fellow pi I grims on their journey. A citizen sh:( this week that he had walked th streets with a man whose position re quired rending aud thinking of a higl order. He attended to draw him ou and get a great thought from hiut, bu fie got noming out money talk, au< tbe extravagant demands for cash an< a sort of general complaint- Then was no great thought there; only a per verted shadow of thought. Are you paying your debts-? Thi more you have the more you owe. Th more you pay the more you will havi left. Measure out the oil of joy an< gladness, full measure, running over aud the jar will be tilled again befon the measure is emptied. If you an much in debt begin paying at once D<> not put it off The interest to tb< uttermost farthing will be eounte< against you. Begin by filling: youi heart no full of love that all eelfishuess will bp driven out. Just let that lov< take in everybody without regard t< greeds, colors or condition. Add t< that a detdre to do good. Theu thi debt paying will begin and you wil not know it. It is a most blessing con dition of mind ween you do gond ju? because yoj canuot help it and you for get it a-> soou as done.?Spartauburj Jouincal. Toilet Sets ! Toilet Sets Prices cut on roiletSets. The sowing of salt 1ms alwa} been considered a sigu of barrennes and desolation. If freely applied i will kill plants. Xoexperiments hav ever shown that increased yield hai been brought about by the use of salt It is said that if it is mixed with a pil of lot and stall manure and worke over a few times, it may assi-t the soi to retain moisture. We uo not stat that as a fact. We suppose the exper ? ment stations have tesied the propert of t-alt ?s a ftrtilizer. If they have, n favoiable reports have been made. J a ton of suit was thoroughly mixe with live tons of lot manure it woul do bai m and j erbaps, no good. Take Time. Let us take time for the good by kiss: We shall goto the day's wor with a sweeter spirit for it. Let u take time to speak kind words to thos we love. By-and-by, when they ca no longer hear us, our foolishness wi seem more wise than our best wisdon Let us take time to be pleasant. Th small courtesies which we often om because they are small will some da look laiger to us than the wealt which we have coveted, or the fatu for which we have struggled. Let i take time to get acquainted with on families. The wealth you are accuir u laliug may be a doubtful blessing i t he sol) who is a stranger to you, You beautifully kept house, busy mothe can never be a home to the daughte whom you have no time to caress. Oue of the most important thing that a man owes to his family ischee fulness. He should east all troub away when he comes to his home. H is a selfish being who, having troub in his trade or calling or professioi always bring his trouble home for tl purpose of making every one el: miserable. There is no bravely < manliness in that kind of a thing, i t thoughtiulness for others, bappiues no trust in God tbat all will be for tt r best.
