The Abbeville Colton Market dosed yesterday with n downward tendency. Last Friday colton brought something over 9 cents, but yesterday 8 7-3 was all that It would bring. Within the last week about 400 baleB have been brought to market. It is perhaps too early to predict the effect of the closing yesterday of 400 colton mill* in , Lancasblres, England. From the following , dispatch it will be seen that the mills In Engi land, like the mills In America, are confronting tbe faot of over-production, and that the operatives In tbat country as well as the operatives In this country are not having the most prosperous timep. Manchester, England, Sept. SI ?More than 400 cotton mills in Lancashire are Idle today, as a result of tbe dispute over wages between operatives and employees. This means that forty million spindles are wholly or partially stopped: that more than 8*50.000,000 of capital is not bringing in any return, and tbat 140,000 operatives are without work, and losing something over $700,000 In wages a week. In view of the present glutted oondltlon of the market, It Is not believed tbat tbls cessation ot work will entail heavy damages to tbe employers. It Is not felt here tbat tbe strike will last long, for the card-room workers are expected to take a second ballot soon and agree to tbe 5 per cent reduction in wages which already has been accepted by the spinnerR. ? ?
