But All this was before the day I was eei
to interview the wife and daughter of tl
man who had just disturbed society t

Mr. Grey, eo it had been learned ?roi
the notices concerning his dlsappearano
had one evening after dinner gone out fc
a stroll around the block. He had nev<

such sad occasions. After giving hii

my chances for an interview with Mr
Grey did not see hopeful, but the city e<

I took the train for the Greys' ?th?

and the other attendant evils of suoh a

one, and there were several laboring me
in it, evidently traveling to some subui

I for they carried pickaxes and shovels.
There sat opposite me and slightly foi

I found my gaze wandering every few mit

with a stubbly growth of gray beard. E
looked unwashed, unkempt and general!
unpleasant. His blue overalls were stall

opened at the front in a way that reveale
anything but a beautiful neok, burne
and blistered. But the man's twltchln
lips and oonvul8ive movements of the jaw
attracted my attention, and his deep m
steely blue eyes that burned in cavernot
sockets fascinated me. He did not talk 1
the other men, but sat with his head sun
upon his breast, only oooasionally raisin
It to cast a look about him. He, with th

Of course Mrs. Grey would not see m<

"Yes, miss," was the reply, and sue

The men were repairing the road, and
noticed one of the workmen whose fa<
startled me. The resemblanoe to the po:

the severe labor. His face seemed moi
mad than ever, with the exultation of m<

bis eyes.
There wu a telegraph office at the en

do something like this.
'b Several of our young people spent a pleasb
ant good old time at the home of Mr. S. T.
Young on last Wednesday night at a play
?lven in honor of Mr. Tommle Young's blrthf
day. Those that attended the play report a
J big tlme as they had some good music and
. plenaant plays.
* There was another evening pleasantly spent
a Tuesday eve by our young folks at the home
<J of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Creswell's. It was a pln[?
der picking, the young folks had plenty of
ice cream to eat and all seemed to have a
y alee time.

* Clrc'4*, Ga., to see the freak of nature In the
j, home of M. M. Atman of that place.
_ There has appeared a picture on the wall of
Mr. Atman's home. How it came there Is
11 not known. The picture Is on the plastered
wall of a bed room. The picture Is that of a
, woman, a child and a man. The bead of the
. woman-Is very distinct. The picture of tbe
* oblld Is as plain as a photograph. Tbe face of
n the man is not so distinct yet eaBlly recogsizable.
There is also a picture of a band pointing
'< with tbe Index finger toward the east
* Tbe picture has created much speculation.
te Chemicals have been applied to It without
