Clinchfield and Ohio railroad (South and Western) as a division engineer for several years, gave the Richmond Times-Dispatch an interview recently which will be read with interest here. He stated that bis company had entirely recovered from the depression of the recent financial panic, and had resumed construction work on contraets already let. The road has asked for aids on a 20-mile connecting link in Kentucky. Rails have been connected from Spruce Pine, S. C-, to Marion, N. C., and trains will probably be running over that part of the system by December or January. "No one who has not visited that country realizes the great possibilli ties which this road will open up." said Mr. Reid. "It will run when completed from the most productive coal fields of Kentucky ana Tennessee to Spartanburg, S. C-, where it will connect with the Seaboard Air Line Railway. Here the coal will be put on the Seaboard tracks and shipped both north and south. "Most people have au idea that a railroad running through a mountainous territory winds monotonously around and around the many hills until the more level country is struck. This is not the case with our road. Wherever we strike a hill to big to cut, we tunnel through, and couseauentlv have a road built on a compar- * ative "tangent with an easy grade through most rugged part of Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina.
