B&rnee epent several days the week before last with the family of Prof. J. F. Harper at McCormick. Some, more or less, of our people at- I tended the Firemen's Tournament at I Anderson and were pleased with their | visit. I Mr. Felix Watkins of Anderson was here some days ago looting after a land matter in wmcn ne was inierebit:u. Miss Grace Wilson of Anderson has been with friends in this place for the past few days. Misses Jennie Robertson and Louise DeBruhl of Abbeville have been at the hospitable home of Mr. T. D. Cooley p for several days. Mr. and Mrs. B. Bollin Allen and their little boy, Rembert, went to ? Greenwood Wednesday and stayed un- J til Saturday with friends in that place. Prof. Dukes, rector of the Cokesbury Conference School, spent Thursday night, the guest of Rev. O. M. Abney. He was looking after the interests of the institution which he was representing. The young people of this place, with ?] older ones as chaperones, took a straw tIHo Tnoboi-'a lfopp* Thnrortdv AVAn. ing, and had a moonlight picnic on s0 the banks of the Savannah and a ride of several miles in the flat upon its waters. Owing to greatly increased railroad traffic to and from this place some of those most interested began an effort sometime ago with the proper officials to get an enlarged depot and greater track facilities, which resulted on Frl- 118 day in the presence in this place of Railroad Commissioner J. M. Sullivan Jjg of Anderson, Supt. G. G. Lynch, of the Charleston and We9tern Carolina Railway, and Mr. O. Porter, railroad 7? engineer. After a conference with our .people it was decided that the depot II and platform be considerably enlarged, the waiting rooms be put in more upto-date condition and the sidetrack considerably lengthened. A few of our people, Messrs. J. W. and Will Harden, D. L. Barnes and some others, went seining in Rocky o: River Monday. They began near OA where Young's old mill stood some , years ago, and went up the river. D? When auittinsr time came, the haul amounted to about seventy pounds, a aL ten pound carp in the lot. The next day Air. B. A. Wilson and Junius Bell began about where the others left off, and went up and they caught about seventy-five pounds. These two parties seined about a mile and half and caught about one hundred and fifty pounds which would indicate that -n above stream is much better stocked with fish than it has been for some years. The Home Fund Life Insurance Co. of Greenville, Mr. R. H. Mosely Agent in this place, has paid out in thiB place, in insurance in the past few weeks nearly $4000.00 to beneficiaries in this section, some of whom would have been in a bad fix without it. On Tuesday, Andrew Oglesby, a good Georgia name, was brought up before Maj. J. G. Huckabee's Court for beating his wire?result the gang received a recruit. n Mrs. J. T. Latimer and her Sunday School class had on sale on the School House grounds, from 6 to 11 p. m. oa Friday, several kinds of prepared dainties. The receipts, about $20.00, to be added to the painting fund for Jg repainting the Methodist church in this place <.> Miss Lizzie Nance and her nieces, Misses Jennie, May, aud Ruth Dunn who bave made their home in Florida for sometime have been tbe guests of _ some of their country friends near here, for a week or two, have been _ with the family of Dr. J. D. Wilson in | town since Saturday. J Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Barnes and their ? two children of Royston, Ga., came over Saturday to stay a few days. A few nights ago the house of a colored m&Dt in this place, so said was broken into and some of his stuff taken. It seemB to any one, who knows a thing or two, that a burglar T must be hard up to make such a raid, Xi too much like going "to a goat's house _J for wool." If yon cough?even from a simple cold only?you should always heal, soothe, ana ease the irritated bronchial tubes. Don't blindly suppress it with a stupefying poison.
