for tbe establishment of an exclusive music

good Greenwood men In town, and we
would be glad to welcome others. Mr. J. I).

citizen. Mr. 0. H. Cobb, formerly of
Greenwood, has been with us for yearr,
and It we are to Judge him by his looks, be Is
flourishing like a green bay tree. And then
there are tbe Messrs. Harrison & Waldrop, recently
of Greenwood. They have established
a general repair shop, and do a lot of plumbing
for our people. If we estimate tbelr pros
perlty by the growth of tbelr stock, by tbf
long hours that they work, by (be amount of
work which they turn out, and by their seem

worse tban anybody. ^
We buve treated the comers with tbe best
good wlabea that we bad In stock, and tbe
Greenwood people bave been moat agreeable
, and useful citizens.
Another matter. Since Greenwood ba>
bean good enough to spare us a good
furniture man, good shoe meo, good
-, repair-shop men, and will posalbiy send
na a dealer In pianos, may we not ask If there
la not a good and lnduBtrlous worker
in Greenwood who would establish an lcf

o we are told, from 8200 to $300 a month foi
laundry, and tben Abbeville Is the biggest

We are badly In need of cool drinks and
laundered linen, and with tbe right man Id
the right place be would do well. Tbe faot Ir,

Let Greenwood send us a music bouse, an

About Marying.
"J. A. E." has an Interesting article In tb*
Associate Reformed Presbyterian on tbe sub
Ject of preaobers selecting wives, and thai
correspondent gives tbe names of various
fathers wbo bad more than one daughter to
marry preaobers. Sometimes as m-ny a*
tbree daughters In one^Jiousebold bad mar
rled preachers. Among other expressions,
"J. A. E." says:
"It Is remarkable bow oar preachers have
found wives Id groups, two or tbree marry In#
In tbe same family. Tbls bas arisen Id one
of two ways. Preachers visiting Id tbe femJlles
of otber preachers have there met the
well favored younger sisters, and through
that contact an aoderstandlog bas oome
about; or It may be that a preacher tblDks
that because Miss Blank has a sister who batmarried
a preacher, she knowB all tbe Joys of
snob a life, so be mak?s tbe venture; or It
may be be knows Mrs. So and So makes a fln<
preacher's wtfe, so be Rives her sister an opportunity
to do as well."
We would suggest another reason. "Bird'
of a feather flock together." And an acqualn'ance
of ours years ago, who was miglijy wtl
fixed Id tbls world's (roods, said that Theological
students were a source ot great worry
toblm. He feared that the young preacher
bad only one eye on bis daughters, while th<
otber was steadily fixed on bis pocket book
or words to that effect.
Of course our old friend was cruelly wrong
and we are more Inollacd to accept the theory
of "J. A. E."

Thft IVgilnnal Bank.
At a recent meeting of the directors of the
National Bank, Cashier B. 8. Barnwell, resigned
the place which he bad held for twenty
years. Daring that time he had glveD
much pleasure and great satlBfaotlon alike to
stockholders and to customers of the bank.
He has been sick reoently. but be has reason
able bope of many happy yearo yet In siort
for him. At seventy-four, however, be Is not
quite as young as he was at flfty-fuur, and
having prospered In business, be bas no need
at bis time of life to continue tbe constant
and fatiguing work which be has been doing.
Having earned a well deserved rest, b? vacates
bis place In the bank tbat others o>
younger years m?y take up tbe work when
he bas left ofl. He Is still a director in tb>
bank; be still owns bis stock, and tbe bankpeople
count on a continuation of tbe uuwaverlog
friendship and uuflagging Interest in
tbe Institution, which character z d bis action
In the past.
With slight chsuges of position, with tb<
addition of Mr. W. D. WliklDRon, tbe uamt
officers are hi ways to be fouDd at the bank's
place of boslness. We repeat:
J. Allen Smith, President.
11. G. Smith, Cashier.
Lewis Perrln, Assistant Cashier.
W. D. Wilkinson, Clerk.
Well, now, If you've got tbe collateral, and
need anytnlng of a material natare, call at
the bank and the ''dust" will promptly come
down In tbe most delightful showers.
Home Again.
Mr. WllUeT. Mcllwalne, who used to be a
good printer In tbe Press and Banner office,
bat who Is now a good oondactor on one of
the roads leading ont of Ocala. Is In town,
speaking to friends and relatives. Tbe Pre#s
and Banner Is always glad to weloome back
to Its doors all such good and true men as
Willie T. Mcllwalne. Since Mr. Mcllwalne
left as be married one of the best girls In tbe
county, and sbe Is still pleased with him. He
Just worships her, despite the command
against Idolatry. Tbey bave two little children?a
boy and a girl, and tbey are rlcb.
The mother and father wouldn't take les*
than a million dol'ars for either of themAnd
so yoo see toat tbey have grown rlcb
during their seven years In Florida.
But no matter bow rich Mr. Mcllwalne may
become, he still has hopes of coming back to
the land of bis blrtb. He Is saving money,
beside tbe value of his children, and In after
years'If anybody sells tbe Press and Banner
be hopes to be at the Bale witb ready cash to
enable him to be a bidder.
Appeal to Greenwood.
We already have Greenwood shoe dealers'
Greenwood repair-shop men, and we need
Greenwood music, Greenwood ice, and Green
wood laundry.

Closing Exercises of the
, Abbeville Graded Schools.
The Ending of a Most Successful
Year--Honors? Medals ? Orart
\
tory-?locution?Happy Eearts
The commencement exercises of the
^ graded school last week closed what is
/ geneially regarded as the most prosperous
year in the history of Abbeville
city hchools, aud many have been
heard to remark that tne commencement
exercises this year were better
than they have ev- r been before.
Instead of having everything crowded
into one evening, as has been the
case heretofore, the school manage'
meut decided to have two eveniugs for
the exercises of the graduating class.
The first of these was Wednesday
22nd, and a small admission was
charged to the Opera House, where
the exercises were held, the proceeds
to go, after all expenses were paid,
into some nice memorial to be given
by the class of 1907 to the school.

there was sooie criticism by those who
did not understand Why any entrance
fee should be coarged. We are, however,
following a precedent established
io many larger places than Abbeville,
and the price of admission, too small
to keep any from attending, brought
in a sum large enough to pay for hall
rent, rent of piano, and other uecessary
expenses, and then leave enough
over to purchase a very nice encycio
paedia for the school,, which will be
properly inscribed as the gift of the
class of 1907 toihe High School Department
of the graded school.
The Opera House was literally packed
on this first evening, and the ordei
of exercises, as follows, was carried
through without a bitch in the program
