A Moat Remarkable Case.
Greenville News.
A New York female cook has been
arrested on tbe charge of being a menace
to public health and is being detained
in one of tbe hospitals. It is
a most unusual and as far as our information
goes, an unheard of caae.
This woman is pronouuced by learned
doctors as a human "culturc tube." It
is declared that since tbe woman recovered
from an attaok of typhoid fever
she suffered about six years ago,
thirty eight persons who enjoyed her
cooking have become victims of the
dreaded typhoid. One of the remarkable
things in connection with tbe
case is that this so called bumn "culture
tube" is buxom and robust, with .
rosy cheeks. She denies that there is
anything wrong with her and id at
the hospital against her will.
One of the specia ista engaged in
rnakiug examination of the case, who
declares ihat it i<*> unique in medical
bictory, in speaking of his unusual
patient said; "This woman left a trail
of typhoid fever belliDd her. In the '
household* v* hereslie was employed,
no HtiHpicion anise ih?tt ?he wa* a din- i
penter of the deadly germs until after
s vera! of the cuiIouh employer* hegan

by stt-p. 8he is Mich a perfectly
healthy looking peraoct that iio one
would suspect her of carrying about a |

Aocording io two of the specialists
who have tentatively examined the
womao, she is in complete possession .
of a million or more germs, none of
which, however, cau do her the least
barm. She is immune, theugh in every
breath she takes she draws in aDd
exhales a cloud of dreadful bacilli.
The case will probably find its wap into
the courts if the friends and relatives
of the woman attempt to rescue
her, which would develop a new phase
of the medico-jurisprudence. Home of
the families in which the woman
cooked are already victims of typhoid.
It is certain that every step of this
most remarkable case will be followed
with in teuee interest by the public at
large.
