On Wednesday September 12tb, 1906, the Bradley family, with all Its ramlfloatlons [through almost every family In the lower part of Abbeville county, met at the residence of Mr. J. E. Bradley. They came, not from the highlands nor yet from the bogs of "Old Erin," but from the hills And valleys ol Lower Long Cane, where they have lived for more than a century and a half. I As tbe story goes, tlu ancestor of this branch of the Bradley family was educated for a Catholic priest, but beiug a little weak on some of the requirements of Ihe faith, es- ' peclalty as to celibacy, he renounced the faith and embraced Protestautlsm. The iamlly came from Ireland and settled In Mew Yoik State. Patrick Bradley, the Immediate ancestor ol the family In tlil? county, came to South Carolina about one hundred and fifty years ago. He Is burled In Lower Long Cane cemetery. The reunion of last Wednesday, though announced only a few days beforehand was a most nleasant atlalr. The bonds of kinship were drawn closer together and the spirit of m fraternity cemented. Something over a hundred persons were present, which represented scarcely two-thirds of the connection. A meeting ot the male representatives, was * called, which was presided over by Hon. J. E. Bradley, now the eldest living male representative tn this county. At this meeting, points of Interest In 'he people's history In this country were brought out. A picnic dinner, supplemented by barbeoued meat and hash was served. It was the general comment of those present that they lad never partaken of a belter dinner of tblr character. m Alter a day of chatter and merriment with the young people, and of pleasant con versa- m lion with the elders, Rev. K. F. Bradley was asked to invoke the blessing of the Father od the people. In bis piayer be was thankful for the Fatherly Providence that bad guided ^ the people to this goodly land and bad "kept c them under Ibeshadow of His wing." He prayed that they might remain In tht G ^ ?anHln/lA awyA A I In Krnl h ^ erly love. He asked a continuance of mercy 3 and love Id the coming years as In the past u As one by one each returned to his home, It _ was with the feeling that he bad profited by u oelng present at so pleasant and orderly a gathering.
