Hnward who was Irled here dtirlne the June term ol court for shooting; Mr. Will Gtbert and sentenced to the gang for 10 years, and Marshall Smith who was sentenced three years ago lor assault on Mr. tieo. Mllford and another convict, assaulted the guard near Price's mill. The guard was knooked Into insensibility with a rock aod his rifle taken. The three have escaped. Sheriff Lyon immediately set out for the camp and has be gun the search. The people are very much wrought up over the affair and many have joined In the bunt for the rascals. It Is hoped that the Sheriff will apprehend them before they get out of the county. This recalls the assault on Mr. Robert MoComb some years ego. The officials cannot be too strict with this class of orlmlnals. They should remember that their lives are at stake and should see to It that every precaution Is taken to prevent assault and escape.' These escapes are becoming too frequent and the criminality of the convict 1b only Intensified by his making an esoape. The community Is not Bafe with such scoundrels as tbe*e at large. They are tenfold more daring aDd dangerous when they have been placed on the gang and have escaped, than they are before they are convicted. tru\ mnnh frnnhlfl in PAtfth When thejTare once caught tlfey should not be allowed to get away.
