Owing to very heavy rain i?'Hall
Township, in the lower part of Anderson
Co. on the 3rd instant, Rocky River
from some miles above here, down
to its mouth was much higher on the
4tb than it has been for some years,
but strange to say not a great 'deal of
damage was done to crops alo'hg its
banks. In many places in this section
the main crops, corn and cotton have
suffered because of too much tain, and
for the same reason less farm work has
been done during the la t naif of June
aud the first half of July, yet strange
to say, there has been but little complaint
as to grass. It is the .general
belief that it is the May grass, that is
bard to kill and does the harp, i ne
good weather of a part of May and of
June the planters conquered it.
Friday night, in the school building
was given admeasure paity to all old
and young small and large," for the
purpose of adding to the funds already
raised, to provide a more suitable
place than can now be bad, for instruction
in music. The entrance fee
[ was, three cents a foot of your height,
and one cent for each inch additional,
you could be as large around as you
j pleased nothing to pay for that.
Songs, recitations and instrumental
music were free; cream and cake were
not free. About $22.50 were taken in
over and above expenses, which was
j quite encouraging to the committee.
Word comes to us that a few days
ago Mr. John T. Bask in lost a valuable
mare. by her falling into a dry
well about ten feet deep. She died after
being taken out.1

down Friday and he and Dr. T. O.
Kirkpatrick went to see Mr. Robert
Bell and hold a consultation as to his
case.
