Newton Gresham, the father of the Farmers' Educational and Co-opera- , tive Union of America, died at his home at Point, Texas, April 10th. Newton Gresham is dead but his work and spirit lives on in the Farmers' Union, which is already the greatest farmers' organization that the world has ever knowD. < ? ' " * ? In the Farmers' union organ i^awun Newton Gresham has left to his people, his family and the Southern farmers as well an heritage and monument to his memory that is far greater than a mint of gold and many statues in bronze. His South Carolina Union brethren mourn his loss, while we bow to the will of Him who gave him for our good. Peace be unto his ashes. Notice. To the Farmers of South Carolina; You are hereby called to meet in delegated power at Anderson, S. C., May 31st, 1906, for the purpose of organizing a preliminary State Union. In answer to many inquiries from farmers for the cheapest plan for farmers to put up their own warehouses, we are getting together a lot of very interesting information, as to plans and cost of a very simple, good and cheap Farmers' Union warehouse that most any strong local Union can put up themselves at comparative small cost. Se*d in to our bureau all the information you have on this subject. ?There seems to be no salvation or hope for that miserable, simple-mi tided "all cotton farmer" who absolutely refuses to heed the warning of the Farmers' Union about not planting more food cropB. Nothing in the way of words seem to affect these slaves of a ruinous system. They cannot be made to feel anything of less force than a rear-end collision with a billy goat or a hungry cotton mule that would rorce inem 10 eai iu?ir ixjuhih from the mantlepiece for about a week. ?You Farmers' Union man stan<f up there and pull off your bat, we have something to tell you tbat will make you feel proud. Did you ever think that our South Carolina Farmers' Union column was now being published in papers that reach over four hundred thousand Southern people who auscribe to these papers? Newspaper men tell us that is so!
