* yy- . . _ . . Mr. C?rneKte*?!Offer lo the Fem?le College. Associate Reformed Presbyterian. Readers of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian will be glad to see the letter which follows: March 20, 190G Rev. James Boyce, President Due m West Female College. Due West, S. C. Dear Sir: ?Responding to your com- _ munications on behalf of Due West Female College, Mr. Carnegie desires me to Bay that he will be glad to contribute Ten Thousand Dollars towards the cost of a Dormitory Building when you have raised an equal amount for * the purpose in'cash or realizable seuritles. Respectfully yours, Jas. Bertram, ~P~ Secretary. About one year ago application way made to Mr. Carnegie lor aid to the College. Two long letters with catalogs, minutes of Synod, &c, were sent. . He began correspondence with us in January, requiring full and detailed information concerning the College We made a strong plea for enough money to erect the dormitory. But he could not be moved from his usual plan of giving only when immediate friendtof tbe institution bavegiven their part. He will not consider giving except "in - proportion to present buildings, endowment, equipment, &c." Consequently we feel, that as we estimated our brick building to be worth $10,000, he has given up to his full limit. This is a great day for our College for women. It opens up a prcspeci for enlargement, equipment and endowment which its friends never saw before. This generous gift comes at an opportune time. The present buildings, especially the frame building, are not . adapted to the modern requirements ot a col lege for young ladies. The Carnegie offer comes therefore in the nick ol time. But it leaves ue a very short time to get up our part of the money and erect the building in time for the opening next fall. But if all the people ot the Church will respond promptly we ? will be able to go forward with the ' Ko rooHi? fnr fho crirla.fhi UUUUlJUg OUU wo JV?UJ B - middle of September. We need a new building to accoma. date our increasing numbers. Tbt normal capacity of our building is 70 boarders. We nave heretofore considered that to be our limit. This year - we have 97. We will need room foi 125 when College opens next fall More rooms have been eogaged air ;jJ ready than any previous year at thifc time. Surely the need of new and 'comfortable accommodations is ut moet. The Associate Reformed Church has ? ' not done anything for her daughters. v< Ample and elegant provision has been { '' made for her sous. Is it not time she should provide worthily for her daugh> 'N . tere? The Church has never enjoyed such prosperity?is twice as stroDg numerically as when Erskinewas built J and endowedand is mapy times strong- <e er financially. Our Southern country tri has not experienced such financial prosperity since the civil war. Under <n these circumstances we ought to rait-e by the required $10,000 in a few weeks. W ili not the friends of the College m. rally around it and quickly place it an well on its feet and in the way to larg- u? . * er usefulness and prosperity. iea !tei 11 11 SO Chamberlain'* Salve. 8r r v - ' A' This salve is intended especially for r?j sore nipples, burns, frost bites, chap- ^ld ped hands, itching piles, chronic sore I .eyes, granulated eye lHs, old chronic sores and for diseases of the skin, such ' as tetter, salt rheum, rlDg worm, scald Ch head, herpes, barbers' itcb, scabies or itch and eczema.
